The H8 pan is a no-go. Read the swap sticky for compatible pans

You need the crank adapter to run the older trans or a custom converter with a LSx snub

Any OBDII ready harness will allow you to connect your laptop to the PCM via ALDL

Best is subjective. I dont like to toot my own horn, so Id suggest doing a search on harnesses (covered extensively) and make the decision yourself

Tuning software is also up to you. Most common two are HPTuners and EFIlive

I also recommend going through other peoples build threads.
