What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

Will an LS3/L92 top end work on an LS7? Or are the LS7 heads specific to that block?

A good friend of mine informed me that through his work (dealership), they sell their pullouts for $500 no matter what it is. Their sister dealership had four pullout LS7's last week and he's going to be checking to see if there's any left tomorrow. If they have any left I'm going to pick one up. If they're all gone, I'm going to sit on it and wait until he can find me another one, since I know it's going to be $500 no matter what. he said they get pulled for various reasons, like a friend of ours that also works at the same dealer got a 11 mile pullout LS3 from a new Camaro that the owner upgraded to a 427, and the LS3 is going in his '02 Camaro.

I'm just trying to think ahead here so if I go this route, I don't blow $5,000 on an engine like I did with my current motor, building it completely with all new parts. I would like to get a good short block but want to know what cheap(er) choices I would have for heads and intake. If LS3 stuff will work that would be awesome as I've found them all over LS1Tech lately.

I too at one point was about to buy an LS7 bottom end but found the LS7 stuff to be unique to LS7 so I didnt bother. Things may have changed since though as this was a few years ago. Regardless any LS3/7 pullouts for 5 bones is a bargain!

I don't know if an anymore enthusiastic sentiment of "dibs!" could be expressed...

Either way, if you don't find out from this thread, post of your findings. It's good info to have available.

Typically I would agree with you. But these are real pullouts that my friends are getting their hands on.

The LT1/T56 combo my dad bought from my friend at the dealership, the only reason we got that combo is because the above mentioned friend got an 11 mile pullout LS3 and is putting it in his 02 Camaro. The stock LS1 was pulled out to go into the 96 LT1 SS that my dads combo came from, so it's a huge musical chairs game lol

My buddy texted me and said the last LS7 got bought by an employee today. He's gonna keep his eyes open for me though. at least I know where I can get a cheap one from just gotta be really patient.

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

They're not all warranty jobs. As I stated earlier, the LS3 was pulled because the owner of the new camaro wanted an upgrade to an LS7 427.

LS7 heads and intake are unique to LS7.

You might read up on how the LS7 is working out for the Corvette guys. Lots seem to fail when modded.

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

I'd do a high compression LS3/L92 setup on an LS7 block if it's possible.

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

It's the LS7 block that's having problems, and it's the LS7 heads that are so awesome. If you're going to throw LS3 heads on it then you might as well stay LS3.

Means to examine something thoroughly or carefully. Spelled properly with two 's' (canvassing).

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

The problem with the LS7 is the dry sump system. The tank is a crappy desig for one. There are a lot of oil control failures on these.

Is it possible to run an fbody pan and a normal oiling system on that block?

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

I think maybe, but I'm not sure, it uses a different front and rear engine cover that doesn't line up with the F body pan. Not sure if you have to fab your own parts or if you can just swap existing parts. If it uses same parts as LS9 then maybe you can use the wet sump system from the new Caddy. I'll bet a quick search on corvetteforum.com will be helpful to you.

Re: What factory heads/intake will work on an LS7?

You'll need more to convert from that hybdrid dry/wet sump system to true wet sump.

You'll need a pan, windage tray, ls3 oil pump & pickup, front engine cover, a balancer and a crank spacer for the wet sump pump.

You'll have to space out the windage tray though because of the stroke on the LS7.

I found this article that lists out in detail what is needed for the dret (factory) to wet sump system, although they list the parts for the LS3 oil pan because that is what they used. You would need to change some parts listed depending on what pan you go with.
I plan on using the MAST pan, so I would need different pan, windage tray, etc for my swap compared to that one, but the major parts are listed.

Looks like a fairly simple swap all-in-all though
