Victor Jr hood clearance.
Im getting ready to drop my 370 in my car. It has a victor junior with a 750 holley on top. Is there any way that this will fit under the stock power buldge hood on my formula? If not how big of a cowl do I need or can I use a ram air hood?Hope someone with a carbed lsx will chime in.Thanks,Dustin

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
When i had a gm single plane on my camaro, i had a demon carb and a 4" air cleaner with either a 1" or 2" drop base and the front of the air cleaner lid was about a half inch from my 4" cowl hood. I never even attempted a stock hood with mine but i would say almost definitely not. I would bet you could get away with a 2" cowl and a short air cleaner.

That really blows since I just spent like 8-9 hours stripping the paint off my hood.

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
I am running a victor junior with an elbow on my current LS1 setup and am hoping to fit it all under a stock Transam hood. If it fits it will be tight, but looking across the fenders it looks promising. I haven't attempted the hood install yet, but I can get you some pictures and measurements of the elbow as comparisson for your carb install.
With the previous 406 SBC, I was running a 750 QFT carb (no choke) with a 68-72 corvette big block drop base and lid using a 3" filter. Without modifiying the fuel bowl vent tubes, I had about 1/2" of clearance between them and the filter lid. This filter setup cost around 11 hp on the dyno when we ran with/without filter assembly test runs. (on a 450 hp engine) This setup was all under the same stock Transam hood and only slightly touched the hood insulation at the very front of the filter.
I did a lot of searching for the lowest drop base I could find and this is the one I came up with.

Direct link didn't work, so search for Part# ACB396. (14" open-style air cleaner base for 1965-1969 and 1972 models with big-block engine.)
ACB396 14" open-style air cleaner base for 1965-1969 and 1972 models with big-block engine.
Lid is Part # ACL396.

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
Does everyone agree that a 3" harwood cowl hood will work on a victor junior setup with a drop base>?

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
I just fitted my hood last night. It took a little modification of the internal support to provide ample clearance, but she fits with additional room to spare. I will get you some pics up tonight.

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
Not sure what you will need for clearance above the manifold, but here is what my elbow added to the manifold height.

If you are planning to run a carb with a choke I am sure you will not be able to clear the stock hood with what I found in getting mine to fit under there. You can see the rest of the hood mods and fitment I did in my build thread in post #79.

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
Im positive after seeing those pics that I won't have any clearance. My setup is probably 4" taller than that of yours.

that elbow will absolutely kill off power and torque to that motor. Unless its a boosted combo, I would do a 4150 style throttle body.

Re: Victor Jr hood clearance.
That means theres no way that a carb will fit with a air cleaner then.
