Collector size

Is everyone here pretty much running a 3" collector on their headers? I am buying my Hawks LT's tomorrow and this is what I am planning on getting. I thought somewhere I heard of clearance issues with them, although these are a slip fit collector. And yes my car is lowered.

Thanks, Steve

Re: Collector size

3" collectors here. I'm running a 4L60E and it's really tight between the y-pipe and the trans pan and frame rail. A six speed seems much easier to run the exhaust around.

Re: Collector size

mine are 3" on my husler mid-tubes, but i neck my y-pipe down to 2.5"....mines not a max effort car, and running the 2.5" pipes helps the mid-range power.

Thanks, I am definitely going with Hawks long tubes. I will just order the 3". It is slip fit so it won't be too bad I suppose. I was just worried because my car is lowered. Maybe I will get some vbands welded on to them.

I have 1 3/4 Hawks with a 3" collector ready to install soon. My plan is to use the v-bands too, but the only stainless v-bands I can find are 90 for each connection which is crazy to me. 1 for each header and 1 for the y pipe connection make v-bands cost 270 bucks.

Just ordered my headers, and went with the 3" collectors. Man I can't wait to get these bad boys!

Thanks

Go with V-bands! You'll just need a good shop to weld the V-band flange to the stainless header. I love mine, they don't take much space and so far have been leak free. Actually, the way they're made its almost impossible for them to leak.

BTW, what's your plan for the crossmember? I fabricated mine using my old Spohn piece and a Hawk's LS1 swap crossmember.

Yeah, I really would like to go vband. Especially after seeing that pic, That is a nicely done Y pipe! Thank you for the pic. I also bought my motor mount plates, and cross member from hawks. Not sure what I am doing for the torque arm yet. Probably on the trans until I do something with a rear end.
