Killing vette regulators or i got other problems
I am on my 3rd WIX 33737 vette filter/regulator. After long drives 30min+ somthing is happening... I got back from a 30 min drive from the town over and the 2nd stop light after getting off the highway the car died, no fuel pressure. The pump was priming with the key but I was getting no fuel at the rail. I got a ride to the house to grab some stuff to diag. the car and when I got back I had fuel pressure back at the rail. I started it up and drove it the 2 miles home and it died again in the front yard. It would have no fuel pressure and then some times it would then some times it would start with good psi and then I could watch it drop off with my gauge. So I headed to the store and bought a new filter/reg. Next day we took it on a small 3hr road trip, car did great on the highway no problems but when I got into town I got on it from a light and it was starving for fuel after 5000rpms. At the next light it died...
Sooooo.... I thought ok i need another freakin regulator. No pressure at the rail and the fuel I did get out of it was foamy and had lots of air bubbles in it.We got a ride to the parts store and bought another regulator and slapped it on. This time we only made it a few miles before it died again at this point I pull up the sending unit to see if there is anything wrong in the tank and I didnt see anything. By the way the car never got below half a tank. The feed line comming out of the sending unit was hot and so was the wiring for the FP. After sitting for a while the car started and I made it to a gas station to fill it to the brim. Im starting to think that the pump is the problem b/c I can drive it on the highway (lots of fuel flow) and the car does fine, or on short trips. When I limped it home the car did fine going down the highway but if i had to stop the car started to surge (low fuel pressure). I'm starting to think the fuel pump is getting crazy hot and not pumping fuel.
Ps: im running an ebay knock off walbro intake pump. I just ordered a actuall walbro from summit today to replace the ebay pump.
Sorry for writing a book but telling the whole story will help diag. the problem.

lol sorry to say but if you seen my post a few days back...my ebay fake walbro left me stranded numerous times.suck it up and buy a real walbro.its worth the same price if not $20 more than the ebay fakes and its a strong pump. The fake that you have in there now are garbage..just cause it makes noise doesnt mean is pumping anything at all :S

One should be here by friday. I hope yall are right on this one... The car is taking us on vacation in 2 weeks and I dont want to be stranded 5 hrs from home lol. Do you think i should stick with the vette reg or order a regular one and run an inline filter?

It seems like tons of people use the vette filter/reg combo with success. I would put your new pump in and triple check all your connections.
In hindsight, I wish i would have gone with an external pump and a "real" regulator. More cost? Sure. But worth the piece of mind let alone the ease of replacing anything. Pulling that tank out is doable but sucks.

Im seriously considering buying a "real" regulator to make my worry level go down but I dont really have the 120 bones to drop on it will all these trips commin up. Im also taking it to 3rd gen fest next month. 12hr drive...

Seems like fuel pump to me. Aeration of fuel, hot.
I don't know why people buy cheap China knockoffs. Support the companies that design the stuff. Those China companies are copiers and don't understand why the design is the way it is. Keep running the innovators out of business and you won't have good stuff to buy any longer.

the wix reg/filter is a quality piece and no need to worry about them. The intank pump and making sure the wiring is upto par is a bigger concern I would say..especially since I cheaped out and been down this exact road twice before learning my lesson lol.My wires dont get hot running the walbro pump either compared to the cheapies I had before, aswell as the fuel pump relay.

Can I just cap off the charcoal line? I have a cap on it under the hood and with it capped the tank is building pressure and some times doesnt like to take fuel at the pump. I can hear the pressure release when I remove the gas cap. Is my vent clogged?

Re: Killing vette regulators or i got other problems
How did you hook it up? A lot of people think the center is the inlet and the outer is return, there are pics floating around the net with that very description. This is WRONG. The outer port is the inlet, the center one is the return. Make sure you have that correctly hooked up. It will not get fuel at the rails otherwise, so you probably have it hooked up right since it does start and such but you never know.
This is WRONG!!!!

I have it installed correctly. I just want to make sure everything els in the fuel system is right. I dont want to be stranded 5 hours from home so I need to make sure everything is installed right and working properly.

Walbro 255 in a stock EFI pickup, Wix 33737 filter/regulator. I had to run wires for the pump because the car was carb from the factory.
Last July, I drove 200 miles to a track, made 9 passes, drove 200 miles home. Not a single hiccup.

Used several and recommended many more to the C5 filter/regulator. Never an issue. Id suspect the pump

Re: Killing vette regulators or i got other problems
Update!
Alright so I got rid of ALL rubber lines and whent to -6an braided hose and fittings.
These are before pictures. Huge death trap. I dont recomend anyone use any type of clamp on a high pressure line, not even FI clamps. The gates rubber FI hoses that i had was getting soft when they got warmed up and i actually blew the line off the fuel rail and soaked the whole engine in gas. I dont know how the car didnt catch on fire but that was the last straw, it is now done right.

After, couldn't get a good angle on it to take a good pick but it has russel 3/8 and 5/16 gm quick connect fittings on the regulator and and summit -6an to 3/8 hard line adapter to go from the feed from the tank to the new braided line.
