Fuel Pump for supercharged LT1 swap?

Alright, to start things off what I'm working with is a 82 firebird. It was originally a v6 car and I have no idea what is in the tank as far as a fuel pump, if it even has one; haven't gotten that far yet. I did a v8 swap in it originally but just ran a mechanical pump off of the block to make sure I was getting enough fuel. Never had any problems. I was sick of the terrible gas mileage and carb tuning issues so I picked up a 95 LT1. I also picked up a Vortech V1 S-trim supercharger with some custom brackets to complement the LT1. The only part missing from the supercharger kit was the fuel pump.

So here lies the problem. I need to know what I need for a fuel pump to satisfy both the LT1 and the Vortech Supercharger. Id like to just run one big pump rather than two like the Vortech kit has you do. I plan on dropping the tank soon just to see what I'm working with but, what do you think my best bet is going to be? I plan on running stock injectors and the FMU for now but potentially upgrade in the future.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A racetronix 255 fuel pump, 42lb injectors, a tune and you should be good.

But ditch that inline pump when you swap out the in-tank pump

I'm not even sure I have an intank pump to start with? I wa thinking I would have to run a dual intake pump setup or something along the lines of that.

I would use 1 or 2 factory 94 Toyota Supra OEM denso pumps, on the stock thirdgen EFI fuel sending unit, getting one of the newer thirdgen tanks would be a decent idea as well.

You can swap in a sending unit from an efi car with the new pump, but you would have to modify the fuel lines. Since you have carb im not sure if you have to modify the whole fuel line or just from the back of the firewall. Upgrading the tank to a plastic one would be a good idea but you need to modify the sending unit harness to get the fuel guage to work.

Re: Fuel Pump for supercharged LT1 swap?

Well I have a stand alone engine harness and I plan on running a full autometer gauge setup. Will the plastic LS1 style tank, pump and sending unit work with aftermarket autometer gauges and supply enough fuel for the supercharger LT1 or will I have to boost the LS1 pump with an inline as well? I dont have any of the emissions junk or vapor canister stuff so id just cap all those off on the LS1 style tank. Just trying to knock out two birds with one stone here...

Re: Fuel Pump for supercharged LT1 swap?

How much power? Under 550 whp id say single walbro 255 or try a 340lph pump they have out now. But a single walbro with hotwire kit should handle it.

Twins handle near 1000 whp depending on things and would be overkill and more expensive than necessary.

If you dont have a intank buy a latemodel gas tank like 4th gen plastic. Try snag wiring from donor car to work with lt1 ecm and such. Should be pretty straight forward with a relay or 2 and wiring diagram

Exactly the answer I was looking for. I was thinking the 340lph hotwired dropped in a 4th gen plastic tank. My standalone harness has the proper wiring and relays for the fuel pump wiring in it.

Hey guys, if you need walbro pumps, we have the 255's, 400's, and 400 E85 compatible with the filter and wire harness. Less expensive than most companies.

What is your best pricing on a 255? Do you stand behind them as far as a warranty as well?

Re: Fuel Pump for supercharged LT1 swap?

Unfortunately there are many people out there that are selling "knock-offs" at inexpensive prices. We guarantee 100% that our parts/pumps are authentic! We pride ourselves in selling quality products.
We stand by everything that leaves our shop.

The pumps are usually sold as a kit. It includes the pump, wire harness, and the filter
(sock). Normally it is sold for $90 with everything included. We will be more than happy to offer the 10% tgo discount which will bring it down to approx $80.00
If you just want the pump then the cost will be $68.00 which includes the 10% off.

The promo code is tg11
