A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

Well I was doing a duramax swap into my camaro but it came down to that, I had to ask myself if it was what I wanted to do or just doing it to do it.

So I sold it and now im building what I want to build.

This car is my highschool car so hacking it up just to put the other motor in wasnt settling well with me and I build cars for others and specialize in LSX swaps Ive got 3 going on right now I know the LS motors have tons of parts laying around to use so its a no brainer.

Heres the parts list I have so far
4l80E
LQ4
L92 heads
Holley high ram intake
complete t76 Turbo kit brand new truck manifold set that will be modified (got a amazing deal on it)
tubular K member
Head studs
102mm tb
truck coils
multiple wireing harnesses to work from to make into mine
Custom Accy drive setup
Tubular A Arms I built
fuel pumps

Still need to get
LS9 cam
LS9 head gaskets
injectors
HP tuners
Boost controller
coilovers
and alot of misc small crap that adds up

I Would like to put a 6 speed back in and if I can find one I will but for now ill just use the 4L80E

all the parts will be in this week and next and ill start throwing some pictures up but ill get everything together and have to finish one guys car before mine can take its spot

im not going to just throw everything in too I would like it to look as good as possible and I have a powdercoating buisness so that wont be to hard.

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

they are LS3 heads straight off the shelf of the dealership for 325 ea unfortunately about 30 min after i bought them the price went up to 499 ea I think summit racing still has them for 350 ea

GM is getting smart

They are the same as the L92 heads except the intake valves are hollow on the LS3s vs solid on the L92

Had to make a decision on the duramax swap huh

My Senior Chief once told me make a decision now.. is better than making no decision later !

subscribing

i might be doing LSX swap also lol we will see this weekend if everything falls in place

you where going to swap in the white camaro in your sig. and pics you posted on my other forum
i would be hesitant in chopping up that camaro also LSX does seem to make more since

Holy crap that's a lot of throttle!

Not to go too OT, but, what's generally the largest TB that'll work on an LS6 intake?

Sweet job on piping that turbo! That looks awesome. I have been sitting on my swap for almost a year now, already bought better heads/cam/clutch/etc., and thinking of possibly going turbo now . So like you did, I have to make a decision, and I really like your's.

do you know if the 6.0 exhaust manifolds are the same as the 5.3? Nice job with all the piping BTW. will the high ram clear the stock hood?

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

You are correct sir its not small for this size motor its about the right size and for a street setup almost perfect the new t7875 is perfect the pt88 is better for track than street but at least with this little guy I can work out bugs get the car good then upgrade

I am setting up the fuel system for the pt88 though I would rather have too much than not enough

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

O well im going to have to sell the LQ4 ls3 heads and painless harness because the car gods have been good and droped a complete 2008 vortec max L76 in my lap it has better internals so Im going to use it and since im not messing with the bore it will be just as strong Im selling the harness and ecu because it wont work on the LS2/3 58X reluctor wheel and Ive decided to go with the holley HP

Also just picked up a th400 that I would rebuild and a friend needed a 400 and just so happend to have a built 4l80e sitting around so thats a straight trade (he will be getting a good convertor) ill get the tci eztcu for the 4l80e then im just a fuel system away from running but I have to finish another car before I can get to mine

i would almost be worried about the front of the hood. its going to be a tight fit. you can always space the k member down. i pushed mine down 3/4 inch when i put on a super victor. bascially a body lift.

Ill see but like you said I can bring it down some and I can notch the underside of the hood because its a 2 piece and get another inch or so the highest point is right at 12 inches from the valley cover a stock ls2 intake is roughly 7 and the trucks are around 10 11 (estimate)

How have you been too its been awhile I wish I was still in FL

So you should be pushing about 6-700rwhp correct? Im trying to do a similar build like yours only with 243 heads instead since i already have them.

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

most stuff I need I get waterjeted that is a KY turbo kit that I traded for

its a t78 68mm wheel with a .96 AR and yes I know it will spool fast and may not reach the PSI goals I want but when that comes ill upgrade to either a pt88 or the new tc7578

And I just picked up my 30K L76 truck motor so the LS2 with LS3 heads all aluminum motor and me and my friend picked it up and put it in the back of my truck big weight difference feel wise at least so Ill get the DOD delete kit and new cam oil pump and valley cover and be set to go

SO the motor you see above is for sale

your right 18 psi is nothing if its set up right. im going to run my little L33 5.3 at 25 psi. its capable of 30 psi but i dont want to push it just yet.

the factory head casting will be the limiting factor in boost 20+. decks are thin. good gasket and stud can only clamp it so much.

the L92s have some meat on them too and also the LSA heads are available now and are the new rotocast and are a good bit tougher now

not true. im running the 5.3 L33 motor with 799 heads and ill be running 25psi. stock bottom end and stock heads, LS9 head gaskets, good rod bolts, "head studs are the key" good head studs torqued beyond spec try 110ftlb. not just any head stud will do either they will run you about $700. but that set up is handling 30 psi on several different cars and trucks.

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

Ive been working with Hinson Motor sports and they are giving me a good deal on the Holley EFI systems I just ordered the HP EFI that will be running a customers car that I am building right now Ive been looking at the software and the capabilities are endless with this EFI system and the price is hard to argue

Stock ECM is 100 for the computer 800 for the painless 770 for HP tuners with the wideband o2 so just there your at 1670

Holley HP efi is 1500 and its stand alone with wiring harness and wideband o2
The benifits you have fan, fuel control it has a self tuning fuel maps the software is stupid simple to use ADDED benifits you have nitrous control 2 step and 3 step transbrake activated BOOST control water meth control

The downside is no trans control but for another 580 you can get the TCI EZTCU the deal I got was 1980 for trans and holley systems

And you can run this same system on any motor with a change of the wiring harness and they only run about 150 200 dollars

I will be ordering the dominator system its alittle bit more but has more output/inputs and it will control the trans

Re: A 91 RS a 6.0 and some other stuff

I weighed the cost savings from getting it from
ECU 100
harness 800
Hp tuners 770
AEM eboost 350
water meth controller 200
wide band o2 200
2 step 150 to 200

thats 2730 and still a stock ECU

for 2400 im getting the dominator wireing that will do progressive boost control water meth progressive control 2 step and 3 step trans control and digital gauges that I can have do multiple things I can have 4 tunes that can be changed on the fly with a keyed switch and there is so much more

I will be installing the HP efi which is alot less then the dominator in the next week or so and will do a write up on it but you can have it as cheap as 1400 turn key with alot of the same features as the dominator and if your running a TH400 or manual its perfect
