PCM controlled fans with 2000 5.3 setup.
I am helping a friend do the wiring harness for a 5.3 swap into a older carbed car. His engine, PCM, and harness are all from a 2000 5.3 Chevy truck. He wants the PCM to control the electric cooling fans. It appears the 99-02 ls1 PCM and his PCM have critical functions pinned the same, so would it be possible to use pins b42 and r33 like a ls1 PCM, and have the electric fan function turned on in the PCM? If not, is there any way to do this short of switching pcms?

you would have to get a custom tune for it to work. a 5.7 pcm might work but I doubt it. with a custom tune and the correct relay harness the 5.3 pcm will run the fans.

He already needs a tune due to removing emissions and stuff plus a cam swap. Nice to know it can be done, but would b42 and r33 be the correct pins to use?

I am building a harness for my 2002 5.3 and those are the pins I am using to power my fan relays. If you go to lt1swap.com, everything you need to know as far as PCM pinouts and wiring a stand alone harness are covered.
