6.0L Accessory fitment questions
6.0L Accessory fitment questions
Ok, I've got a lq4 6.0l i'm converting to fit my 91' Z28.
I'm doing a LS3 topside conversion, and need some help on accessory fitment please!
I'm wanting to mount a LS3 water pump, cause I like the shorter distance from the engine and less rotating mass, but I can't seem to get a straight answer...
1. whether or not a 98-02 fbody power steering pump will work with it, and/or the crank pulley?
2. If they won't work (fbody P.S., and crank) can they be shimmed or spaced?
3. Will either of the ls3 or ls6 style accessories work with the truck crank pulley?
4. If i ran a ls3 style water pump and power steering pump, will it work with the truck crank pulley?
My research lead me to this... if i run a ls3 style water pump, I'll have to but spacers for the pump to run with the fbody P.S. setup, but not sure if either will line up with truck crank pulley?
Also found spacing goes as follows, truck furthest, then fbody, then corvette.
Any help would be appreciated! Thankx

Re: 6.0L Accessory fitment questions
the ls3 water pump is not a shorter distance from the motor the LS3s have the cam sensor in the timing cover and the cover is about 1.5 inches thicker so it looks like its closer but when mounted up to a LQ4 it will have alot of space
Look up dirty dingo they have nice accy brackets that use the truck spacing and you can use your original PS pump and AC and that will save you from making new lines
Call scoggin dickey on the LS3 heads too they may give you a good price I just bought a set for 325ea last month
If you want a LS3 water pump get the truck pump for a L92 spacing will be correct and line up perfect with the DD brackets and clear a ls3 car intake

Re: 6.0L Accessory fitment questions
Like he said --> LS3 has larger offset like the trucks. The F body accessories are closer to block.
When using a LS3 water pump,
* F body crank pulley will not work. Sits too close to engine.
* F body alternator and idler pulley cannot be spaced out. Part of the alternator bracket bolts to the side of the block. You can't move that hole forward.
* F body Power steering bracket is mounted to front of cylinder head. I suppose it could be spaced out but you should probably use a solid spacer so the bracket has a flat surface to pull up against (as if it was mounted to cylinder head).
* F body AC compressor cannot be spaced forward because it bolts to the side of the engine block.
If you already have F body accessories then consider yourself lucky and just use an F body water pump.

Re: 6.0L Accessory fitment questions
Ok, thx for input, but I should clarify a few items...
I already have the heads and the intake from an LS3.
I was looking to retain the truck crank pulley if possible and use the LS3 water pump, if possible, for the looks, and Also fuctionality of it or an LS6 style to move the water neck away from the TB.
I'm not particularly set on anything, just trying to do this economically as possible and still look decent as well.
Does anybody know if the LS3 waterpump and PS pump will align with the truck crank pulley?
Also, not worried bout AC, not gonna run it.

Re: 6.0L Accessory fitment questions
If using truck crank pulley and the LS3 WP lines up, then put a 3/4" spacer under the Fbody alt and PS to move them out and you're done
