Magnacharged LS1: Dyno Results

Finally made my way to a dyno session after my final tune.

This is a GTO TVS1900 kit on a 2000 LS1.

Engine is stock, heads are stock 853's with Crane dual springs, and essentially a Thunder Racing blower cam (214/230 .601 / .578 117 LSA).

Exhaust is Hawks 1-3/4 long tubes, 2.5" y-pipe, 3" exhaust with flowmaster muffler.

Maggie has a 102mm TB, bored out snout, and 3.05 pulley. Maxes out at 8.2PSI.

Speed density tune, big air filter to a straight 4" pipe on the intake. Judging by the cutout open effects, I need to rework my exhaust.

First run, cutout closed. 497HP, 471TQ:

Second run, cutout open. 507HP, 491TQ:

Works for me!

Yeah, that torque number was a bump at 2900, fell to about 475 at 3500. Just about flat until 4700, and then trailing off to around 400 by the time I hit the rev limiter.

With 4.11's and a 6-speed, it's quite fun.

nice numbers... So what do you think, is the cutout HP/TQ bump is worth the noise? I have one on my car and it wakes the dead.

Hell no! I like the stealth / sleeper approach, and the cutout does not fit into that. Dyno guy wasn't even going to strap the front down until I popped the hood. I've got an electric one I've broken twice, looking to get one that fits better. I mainly used it for the track & making noise.

When I went to the dyno I was running a standard bolt-on plate, and run 2 of 2 went 497. The guy hosting the event said it was a shame I wasn't turbo, we could have cracked open the wastegate just enough to hit 500. I said we could try the cutout and he was pissed I didn't run it with it open to begin with. Gave me a free run just to see.

It's good to know when considering larger headers/3" collectors though.

Yeah, I only open mine when I'm looking for every possible HP. I still haven't gotten rear wheel dyno number testing open vs. closed. Hopefully this spring sometime. I also had bad luck with the first 2 electric cutouts leaking. I went through 2 Summit brand Chinese knock offs before switching to a QTP cutout- much better.

I don't think I could've said this any better myself

With Hooker Shorties on my old 305, it wasn't extremely loud with an open cutout (in place of the cat). Startup was loud, but once it was warm, it wasn't anything to go deaf over. For the last few months before winter teardown, I actually drove it with the cutout always open. Didn't draw any attention from law enforcement, but then again I always just coasted past if I saw any lol. This year, I'm running mufflers though. Longtubes with a bigger motor and bigger exhaust valve, probably a bit louder. Dual 3" Thrush mufflers after the longtubes, see ya ground clearance.

Not a Chinese problem on my end. Have a Raceready model that I tucked up all nice and tight. Hit the intermediate pipe backing out of a driveway and smashed the motor into the body. Finally got the motor replaced, re-installed it so it had clearance around the body, and about a week later ripped the gears open hitting a speedbump. The design of it makes you have the motor facing up or down, no happy medium.

Thinking of going with the Raceland unit. Slightly larger, but should hold up a little better on not hang down or up.

Re: Magnacharged LS1: Dyno Results

couple things:
get a lower numerical gear.

your exhaust can be improved, maybe try building a slick true dual setup? if you want the sleeper sound, it may be the way to go, otherwise one of the established companies may have somethin for ya.

Re: Magnacharged LS1: Dyno Results

what head gasket are you running with those 853's? By stock do you mean stock compression, and bottom end as well? Just curious because I've read that the 853's are limited with head gasket selection because of a notch in the heads. Great set up by the way!

Stock head gaskets and bottom end. Only things done are standard cam swap items, ported LS6 oil pump, new timing chain, cam, and springs. Heads have never been off the engine.

Re: Magnacharged LS1: Dyno Results

No blower here but I'm running Hawk's 1&3/4 swap headers with the 3 inch collectors that go into a custom 3 inch Y with dual cut-outs, then to a 3 inch magnaflow exhaust. On the dyno, we put down 14 more hp with those things buttoned up. I know, go figure. We never intend to use the cut-outs again. Your car might like something like the 1&7/8 or 2 inch headers with 3 inch Y and a big (non-flowmaster) cat back. I bet you'd see the 500 pretty easy without opening the cut outs.
