83 LT1 swap question

Looking at my K-member, there doesn't seem to be enough room to cut a notch in it for the A/C compressor. Am I missing something?

Re: 83 LT1 swap question

From what ive read is that in order to use the camaro a/c you have to use the lt1 motor mount and that will move back acouple inches. Then you can notch it

So, if I use the Caprice Compressor (LT1's) I don't need to notch the K-member? That would be nice.

Re: 83 LT1 swap question

You use stock 3rd gen motor mounts, not the LT1 mounts. I heated up my k member and hit it with a hammer for the compressor to fit.

In my picture, that is a stock 3rd gen motor mount. Do I have to modify the motor mount to allow the LT1 compressor to fit?

Running without A/C down here in SC is a crisis situation. After looking carefully at the K-member once the engine was removed, I see that there isn't room to notch the member because of the motor mount.

What have I gotten myself into?

Alot of the questions your asking can be found with a simple Google search or just reading through FAQs and sticky threads. Any question you can think of for your swap has already been asked and answered somewhere out there. People just like progress and pics.

I've read this thread over and over, but it's really for a LS1 not an Lt1. And if you look closely at the K-member notch and then look at my K-member with the motor mount installed, I don't have room for that notch pictured in the thread.

Re: 83 LT1 swap question

Let me finish this thread with this; I found a 94 Corvette accessary set up and bought it. It puts the ac compressor on the driver's side up high. Just look at a 92-96 Vette. So, I will not be knotting my K-member and I'll have more room for my headers. Thanks guys
