TR6060 useability in thirdgens
TR6060 useability in thirdgens
Something I just noticed is that I haven't yet seen a TR6060 6 speed from the newer style camaros/g8/cts-v used in third gen swaps. I understand it's easier to get a drop out of a fourth gen, however I am curious if anyone knows much about these trannys. They are supposed to be rated at 600 ft lbs and based off of the t56.

They're rare because of the special hoops to jump through in order to get them physically in the car
1) Designed for IRS, so the output shaft and yoke are designed for a fixed DS. Custom yoke will do it at an extra cost
2) Biggest hurdle is the divorced shifter. No easy way to fix this, so new tailhousing, shifter rails etc to make it essentially a Fbody trans with a few internal upgrades
3) Special machining for mis-matching parts like bearing races in the Fbody tail. Jonathan at Tick told me all the little details, but I cant remember all of them. Its not a simple R&R a shade tree mechanic can do
Compare those to a stock Fbody/GTO T56 and its a pretty easy choice. OTOH, if you were building a 6 speed car and needed a stronger trans and were ordering it prebuilt, sure, have the shop start with the newer core

The aftermarket Tremec T56 Magnum is a much better choice. It's basically a TR6060 that's had all of the above-mentioned problems addressed by getting stuffed into a T56-style case.

The changeover to slip-yoke and tailhousing-mount shifter is a fair amount of cost but not vastly different than converting a CTS-V tail to GTO tail.
The one-piece bellhousing / front adapter plate makes the 2010 Camaro unit longer than the separate bellhousing 2002 F / GTO setup.
It can be done, but the cost adds up.
