4l80e
what ls engine codes came with a 4l80e. Would like to find a 6.0l or a 6.2l LS out of a wrecked vehicle that came with motor, trans and all wiring. It would just make life much easier to have a 6.2L with a 4l80e that is factory.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the 4L80E was ever used behind 6.2l engines (except perhaps 6.2l diesels...). So, it's either a 6.0/4L80E, or you'll have to get a TCM to control the 4L80E behind a 6.2.

Re: 4l80e
All 4L80e's are essentially the same although there are 5 or 6 series. What that means is you can control the first, and the latest variations with an LS1 PCM. They are a bit on the "dumb" side in terms of programming you kind of have to set up the shifts for race, or street, its not really possible to scale the pressures for throttle input to get the best of both worlds( that im aware of ) with a factory PCM. Aftermarket? Who knows, lots of options out there now from full manual valve bodies to aftermarket servo stuff etc.
Converter selections are limited relative to glides or 400's but they are starting to get up to speed now.
They came in 2500 and 3500 series GM pick ups from 91+ and in an assortment of cube vans and large trucks

I can't vouch for all of the info here, but it at least looks like they know what they're talking about.

Re: 4l80e
The new 6l80 and 6l90 will not physically fit into our cars and a lot of other cars so the 4l80e is the logical choice. MT1 is its code I found out and you guys are right in that it was put in a lot of vans and trucks. It is also the trans just under the allison in the duramax trucks. I was hoping it was installed in a 6.2 car so programming would be easier.

Re: 4l80e
None of this stuff we jam in these cars "fits" thats why we build em, we make it fit. There was a red 91 Ragtop third gen at LSFest with a 5.3 and 6L80 in it. Looked stock, couldn't tell a thing about it different, it was a VERY clean build

I think he was referring to fitting the stock tunnel. 4L80e is the biggest that will fit without major surgery

Re: 4l80e
Also from what I have read. if you are planning to use the stock convertor you will want a 4l80e from a gas vehicle ie 6.0L truck. They have looser converters (2500ish range) The diesels have a lot tighter of a stall speed (1500-2000ish)

Re: 4l80e
Yeah thats what ive come to understand too. Theres only two different 4L80 stall cores, hence why its a bit trickier to get the "right" stall for certain hi performance applications.

Re: 4l80e
There are 2 ways to re-pin the trans electrical connector to run an 80E using 60E programming.

Re: 4l80e
A 4L60E connector can be repinned to run a 4L80E with the addition of a second speed sensor, but a 4L60E tune CANNOT run a 4L80E. Been there done that

Re: 4l80e
Then you did it wrong. You still have to go in with HPTuners. Note I didn't specify a stock-60E-tune, but still you don't need an original-80E-specific-tune.
This is why the conversion adapter thing for the trans harness even exists.
There is nothing LSx-related that hasn't been hacked already. Just gotta know who to ask.

Re: 4l80e
Well tach is just a trigger from the ignition (PCM has an output). For a 4l80e assuming your car is cable driven you need to buy a convertor box which is around $400! I havent found anything cheaper yet. This is the one thing keeping me away from doing this swap, and the price of convertors/software if I dont wanna control with the stock pcm.

Re: 4l80e
My speedo is the 90-92 style which is some wires and generator type thing. I like the old cable style the best. I don't know the name for my wire driven pulse thing-a-ma-bob.
