Budget 11:1 N/A LQ9 Build..gotta few questions
Im building a LQ9 out of an 04' escalade to swap into my 87' IROC and im wanting to mill my 317 heads .040" to bump the compression up to around 10.8-11.1 or above, my questions are:
*First, what head gaskets should I use to get the compression as close to 11:1 or above after milling the the 317's .040" ?
*second, what length push rods would I need after milling the heads .040" and using said head gaskets and LS7 lifters?..i know I should measure to be sure but would 7.35" be about right??
*and last but not least, what would be decent cam that I could find used(preferably a bit more aggressive then the LS6 cam) cheap that would perform well with said combo(+LS6 intake,longtubes,3600 stall etc)without flycutting the pistons??
im open to any advice but im poor with 3 kids a wife, dog, cat, house etc.. so please keep that in mind lol,jk im not really that poor but this has to be done as cheap as possible,TIA

as far as pushrods, the only way you are going to know for sure is to measure with the cam installed.
what are your plans for the car? dedicated strip car, fun weekend cruiser, etc? that will decide what your cam needs are.
for a 6.0l i wouldn't go below 228/228. i run a fms f13 230/232 .595/.585, and it put down approx 400hp at the wheels with 10:1 cr. it has brutal mid range torque which is what i wanted.

you will be able to run low 12's on motor easy, with the l92/ls3 heads on a 6.0l and a smallish cam you will be in the high 11's.
the square port heads that you have picked out don't require "huge" cams to perform. you can have the best of both worlds, good numbers and good street manners.

yes the lq4/9's come with 317s from the factory, and are cathedral. the link you posted is for the ls3/l92 heads and cam package.
