Re: 5.3 vortec passlock

Plain and simple rule is, if the donor PCM is from a car with a chip in the key, a module can be used. If the donor PCM is from a vehicle without a pellet chip in the key, it must be tuned out of the PCM, no module can be wired in.

Passkey- pellet chip in key
Pass lock- no pellet in key.

Any of the 99-up GM trucks or SUVs are a pass lock security system. You have to have the PCM tuned to get rid of vats, a module won't work for your situation.

Re: 5.3 vortec passlock

The way I understand it, the trucks use transponders to communicate and enable/disable vats. Even with a bypass, a thirdgen doesn't have all of the nessasary parts to make the system function.

It is plain and simple as sending the PCM out and having vats deleted.

That or buy a LS1 PCM and then wire in a bypass module.

Or have your PCM reflagged with a ls1 tune and then wire in a bypass module.

Neither of these are cost effective solutions to just having your PCM you already have sent out to have vats removed.
