Stock single fan in swap?
Was going through my engine bay yesterday tracing wiring, vacuum lines etc for my LS1 swap. I thought I had a dual speed fan in my car for some reason, but apparently the solo fans are just a single speed.
If I wire it up to come on with the low temp setting on the LS1 ECM it should cool just fine no? Considering it can keep my 305 cool sitting in dead stopped traffic on a near 40 degree (celcius) day on ashphalt.
Safe to just run it this way and then if I realize it's not cutting it in the summer then upgrade?
Always fun going through an old car and finding things, like the vacuum hose has a junction off the cannister for cruise, with a screw in the end from someone blocking it off, yet there was no cruise on this car.
Or my garden hose heater bypass to fix a leaking heater core. Random grounds going all over the place too. Going to easily spend a day in the empty engine bay just tracing wires once the motor is out.
Can't wait to finally pull everything out, just need a bit more $ for some essentials and some warmer temps.

Re: Stock single fan in swap?
Dual speed? Never heard of such a thing on a thirdgen. Either single electric fan, dual electric fans, or mechanical fan. I'm claiming to be correct, just never heard of it before. I think most people doing a swap change their fan arrangement. Maybe change to a dual fan setup. According to the schematic you posted it shows 2 fans.

Yeah, I knew I had a single fan up front, assumed it was dual speed, but when I looked at the wiring for it I thought it must only be a single speed, which after some research I found my hunch was correct...
Just making sure that it will be enough air being pulled to cool down the LS1 if it comes on the low command from the ECM.

Re: Stock single fan in swap?
The ford Taurus fan is dual speed and a common swap
The stock single fan is plenty for most swaps. If you're to the point of upgrading the radiator, then a fan upgrade should be considered. Use a common lt1/ls1 dual fan and shroud combo
When using a single fan, use the low speed pin on the pcm

Thanks Pocket.
Motor will be staying stock until the rest of the car is tip top so I will stick with what I've got.
