DIY turbo?

Has anybody done a DIY turbo on there ls swap. I found two turbos in the local bone yard off of some saabs. I think the engine size is a 2.2 or 2.4 I also have a turbo off of a 6.5 truck. Just wondering which ones would be best?

Re: DIY turbo?

My guess is the truck one, but you are going to have a crazy large turbine since they want all their power as quickly as possible. Also the two turbos might be OK, but still a little small. Also do you really want to have to mess with two of everything? That adds up really fast.

Best bet, sell all three and get a right sized eBay turbo and build from there.

Re: DIY turbo?

Dont waste your time with used OEM turbos unless your literally getting all the parts for free and are just trying to "use what you have"

As mentioned you can buy On3 turbos very reasonably priced that will produce pretty impressive power. Theres cheaper no name stuff too if you really want to go low buck. Aim for the 75mm range

Re: DIY turbo?

CXRacing offers a new T76, 0.96 A/R, for $ 310. Just about right for a 6.0L or a cammed 5.3L
I'm planning to try their same-price T70, 0.81 A/R, to get a baseline for my stock 4.8L before deciding on a higher-quality replacement.
When you can get in the ballpark for sizing at such low cost, then why take the risk of mystery units being too small, or damaged, or both? Plus what do you do if one of yours fails?
