LQ4 Swap Builld Help
So i started this thread because i have become ill with wanting a LS based engine as i am done dealing with my 305 TPI (had a fire burned the engine harness to many shorts). So i decided to finally focus on the future of the car as it was a gift from my dad and i will never part with it i have a 87 Z28 camaro. i have done pretty much all the mods suspension, brakes, rear end except engine besides minor upgrades so i got a good base. well any ways back to the subject i can bought a 2002 LQ4 short block and some 317 heads but i am a little lost on what to do from here as far as Cam'
I want driveabilty and speedup pretty quick
nothing crazy so maybe 400 HP/TQ will be able to do it for me?
Also what PCM Should i use with the ls1 harness?
will the Will the LS1 T56 bolt up no problem?
sorry if all these questions have already been asked and answered I did do a search and didnt really find what i needed
so this i what i got now:
LQ4 Short Block with 317 Heads
Complete LS6 intake(fuel rail,TB,MAFS)
LS1 engine harness
LS1 front accessories No Ac
UMI engine Mounts
Hawks LSX Conversion Headers

Re: LQ4 Swap Builld Help
Z06 cam should wake it up. Get a 0411 ecu Or you can just get it out of a truck of that year motor. Make sure you address the wiring gremlins because it will be a bitch every time you blow something.

Re: LQ4 Swap Builld Help
Just to answer a few questions. A t56 will bolt up no problem and for a street clutch the ls7 clutch is nice but if you plan on drag racing at the track more often..go with something a bit beefier like a monster stage 2 or equivalent. I just opted to switch to a 411 pcm since its a faster processor and had slight os differences that made fine tuning my setup easier.
Ill chime in a little to give you an idea what kind of power I made with my Lq4. I started with 100%stock lq4 with 317 heads and had put in my 228r cam.At that time I was running stock fbody manifolds and after tuning the car put down 320whp/330tq.Driveability was like stock ls1..after tweaking the tune a few times. It was quick..but left me wanting more.Last year I got a pair of 243 heads and had them milled .030 and used stock head gasket. With no other changes I hit the dyno and put down 370whp/380tq. Thats when the car felt like something and i know that these motors like compression.Midrange and topend power was strong. From 3000-6700 the car just pulls and pulls. The past 2 months i went with the cheapy 1 5/8 longtube headers and did an 3" e-cutout.hit the dyno again for a slight retune and I hit 400whp/400tq on the dot.And still drives like when i had my stock ls1 swapped car but with a punch.I have stock ls6 intake..injectors..nothing crazy by any means.there are alot better choices for cam now that will give you power without being harsh on the drivetrain.Id want to go to a Tick performance cam as im seeing alot of nice setups from them lately.
