88 Trans Am GTA 355 TPI/T5 to LS3/T56 swap.
I am swapping my TPI and T56 for an L92 i'm upgrading to LS3 cam/intake/valves/springs with a T56.
I will keep uploading pics of the car and build to Photo log So check back periodically while i slowly get things done.
Some pics of the old:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxo...ew?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5l...ew?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5l...ew?usp=sharing
So far the car looks like this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5l...it?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5l...ew?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5l...ew?usp=sharing
i've unbolted the kmember supports, the shocks, the swaybar, the brake lines and the 6 kmember bolts. I also removed the castle nuts from the joint.
When i lift the front of the car it seems like the motor is going with it, the car gets pretty heavy for the engine hoist and the motor clearly stays with the body. The k-member has dropped about 2 inches but i can't get it to separate any further.

Any suggestions? Continuing to lift doesn't seem to be the right option but maybe i'm just chicken.

Is it resting on the centerlink?
Forget the K-member braces up front?
Heater core lines?
Big engine to chassis ground?
Shifter cable?
The car will lift off with minimal effort once everything is loose

Thanks Pocket,
It ended up being the center link and maybe the shifter.
Got it out though.
Did bend the rear brake line as i didn't realize it had a bolt connecting it to the back of the kmember spring perch.
oh well.

Thats nothing to loose sleep over
A little simple green and elbow grease will make that engine bay shine up nicely

Re: 88 Trans Am GTA 355 TPI/T5 to LS3/T56 swap.
So... A little past a year for an update isn't too long, right?
I got the L92 totally converted to LS3...
New hollow stem intake and new exhaust valves, ls3 springs, 8k mile ls3 cam, moroso hv pump. 4th gen conversion pan, brand new ls3 intake.. new lifters pushrods etc. New 140amp truck alt, howe performance ps pump, waterpump, summit sfi underdrive pully.
Hopefully this wakes up the 120k L92 a bit
Fabbed up a terribly welded bracket for the pedal that just barely gives full pedal through while looking/fitting properly.
Bought a LS1 master/booster but the guy took forever to ship it so its waiting for me to install...
Tick master for the clutch installed.
Stripped some rust and stuff around the driver side area while things were apart and primed it up. We'll be painting the car next spring at my friends shop back in nebraska.
Also got a new slave in the transmission, and all bolted up to the LS3. THe kid i got the transmission stuff really sold me some stuff in questionable shape. filthy threads, broken and stripped threads on the bellhousing and slave etc. I was able to save and clean most threads, but one on the trans to bh, so i'll need to buy a new bh most likely, and maybe a front plate for the T56 down the road some time but should be good enough to get her on the road in december.
Next up is unbox and fit the BMR tubular k-member, mockup and run the brake lines, then get the k-member, engine, trans in and up, start making my adapter harness out of a V6 car harness and integrating it with my Erod LS3 harness.
need to drop rear end and get a new seal for it, and drop the gas tank so i can swap the LS1 tank.
Also the LS1 gas tank needs lines fitted and and wire run.
some good progress though.
All the pics are here
Includes bonus photos of my wife being artsy with the photos, our Longhair german shepherd and my new truck (2003 silverado 1500HD 6.0 2wd), and the front brake package for my 2010 SS Brake upgrade
On order are 18x10.5 WELD RTS rims.
Aside from stupid little odds and ends, i have almost everything necessary to finish this build. Hopefully can get it done before mid December when my Mom and father arrive so we can get some good seat time in.
