Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
yea its the f-body accessories.
and i did get the crossmember bolted up. Im honestly really disappointed on its fitment... for the money i figured it would fit much better.. it was late so i didnt get any pictures, ill post them tomorrow to show exactly what im talking about. the drive side seems to have plenty of room for my long tubes, but just looking at the passenger side with everything, im having some doubts. they are suppose to be here thursday tho.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
got my hawks long tube headers in the mail today. and my trans bushing for the 4l60e
well the bushing ofcourse didn't line up with the hole in the hawks crossmember ( no big deal ) ill just make the hole bigger. But what im really concerned about is the shifter linkage with these headers. its a super tight fit. and the 3rd gen cable is way to long in the bracket to line up right. I have the bracket from the 700r4 still. im thinking im going to have to get a 4th gen cable and modify that one?
also from the trans shop they put the truck shift module or what ever that thing is back on -.- so now I need to get the 700 one back for the linkage to even bolt up.
ive seen some people modify the cable but there doesn't seem to be to many people out there running a 4l60e.. so any one have any suggestions on what worked the best with minimal modifying ?
oh and the header on the passenger side actually has a decent amount of space next to the frame. don't think ill have to bend it out like ive seem some people having to do on here.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
did some more work on the car tonight. finally got the transmission dipstick in ( I can see why people install this first before dropping it in
) and the crossmember all lined up properly.
then I went to attempt my shift linkage and this is when I got really frustrated.
when I got my trans back, the guy gave me back both ends from the 700r4 and 4l60e. and both brackets. well ill show you the pictures of what im running into..

I found this end to work best. I still need to drill out that little end. but end blocks part of the o2 sensor hole...

and then the 700r4 bracket hangs down into the collector.. I think I an cut the bottom of the bracket off and then bend it out of the way or something maybe. Also the cable sits so close to the header I feel like it will melt from the heat.
At this point im not sure what I should do and im contemplating on selling this 4l60e and buying a t56.
I am running the hawks headers with a 3inch collector. maybe I should of went smaller?
A buddy of mine told me that the shift rod and be replaced with a shorter one, I just have to drop the pan and it slides out after removing the bolt that holds it in. I mean I could try that since the transmission is empty.
and ideas guys?

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
could the shift rod be the problem? since it had the external neutral safety switch so its sticking out to long?

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
i ended up going back to the transmission shop and got my hands on the shorter shaft without the space for the neutral safety switch. im guessing this should take care of that problem. ill just need to modify the bracket to clear the collector .

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
im not sure of the year. it all came off the same Camaro. and yea you need the balancer to run the accessories properly.
so im looking for the diagram I believe pocket had made showing the part numbers for the fuel fittings when using the 255 pump and corvette fuel filter.
ive been looking all over for that diagram but I cant find it anywhere

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
have a quick question. im running hawks long tubes and their crossmember. im going to use the stock location for the torque arm on the transmission tail housing. does the hawks y pipe fit using the stock arm location? ive seen pics but they are running a different arm location.
want to know before i order it.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
last night got a lot done, starter, headers, plugs wires, torque arm bracket and arm, power steering lines, drilled and tapped the hole for the alternator.
today i plan on dropping my gas tank, and run all my lines.

i dont know if you guys can see it in that picture, but that collector on the passenger side is right up against the frame rail.. :l
not sure what im going to do. i might put a little heat on it and use my pry bar to see if i can move it over any.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
Unbolt the trans mount and push the tail towards the drivers side. Once there is ample clearance for both collectors, drill a new hole in the crossmember. From a distance, your trans mount looks like a generic poly, so it likely has three holes. Just the far right one if it lines up

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
thats not a bad idea, not sure why i havent thought of that.
well got most of my fuel lines ran today. forgot to order one for AN fitting for the fuel pump so thats gonna have to wait till tuesday.
also got the engine harness all ran, tomorrow im going to run the interior harness and fuel pump wiring and what not

this is what i used to cut my AN line. 15$ from homedepot and they cut through it like butter. just tape where you want to cut and it doesnt fray

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
haha im using my parents garage for this build since i dont have one at my house. but they have a 65 (64 and a half) mustang so that explains the sign
well got a little more done today. its the small victories that keep you going haha
got the harness all set up, mounted the relays and fuseblock. figured out where i want to mount the ecu. having my dad make me a custom bracket at his machine shop this week for it. just need to run a had full of wires into the car, and extend the OBD port harness to reach inside the car as well.
heres some pictures

i ended up trimming this end flat for the cable to stick out so i could clamp it together

and this is not where im going to mount the computer, i going to place it on the side of the fender, using the flat spots where the washer bottle used to sit

now this is the tach wire that was hooked up to the distributor on the old motor. now i want to keep my stock tach so i do need to keep that resistor or do i eliminate it and just connect that wire with the wire from my harness?

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
You can mount it with just the one hole and the rear bracket, but there's a boss that can be drilled and tapped for the top hole. Do a search, there are several walk-through's and write-ups available.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
seems like its been forever since i updated this last.
well ive had the car running for a couple months now and im so happy with it.
ran into a few little problems here and there but i expected it, i also had picked up a 3.42 rear end from a 4th gen trans am, fit nicely and for 250$ i really couldnt pass it up. stops alot better now with disc brakes all the way round.
well heres some pictures ive been saving up on my phone and ill try to upload a video of it running.

Re: 84 z28 lm7 swap
waiting for my f.a.s.t hand held tuner to come in the mail, right now she runs high 8's in the 1/8 mile which isnt to bad i suppose.
hoping to see a bigger improvement once i get it dialed in better
i have just ove 1700 miles on her now, she flys down the high way. im really surprised how much more power this 5.3 has over the built 355 i had in before. over winter im planning on a turbo set up
heres a little video i took the other day.
(click the picture and it should play)
