Fluctuating fuel gauge pointer

Hows everyone pointer on their fuel gauge?
Does it bounce around some?
How common is this?
My issue is mostly during braking/accelerating & more so again in the lower half range.

Using the plastic fuel tank (01) with the OE sump/float, aftermarket pump, speedhut gauge.Doubt the gauge/pump have anything thing to do with it, since the pointer is reacting to the float moving up/down...right.

Mine does this heavily, even in the stock tank. There's baffles in it, and still does it. I've just come to expect it.

My wife's 91 with stock everything does it too. Especially in the lower half of the range.

They have. It is handled by trending algorithms in software for gauges that are run by an ECM. Our gauges are wired directly to the float so if the float goes up, then guess what happens......

The only thing that slows it down is the damping built into the gauge.

Re: Fluctuating fuel gauge pointer

Anyone make a "buffer" device to steady the needle?

Re: Fluctuating fuel gauge pointer

Do you think it's in the computer? Kind of like how the 99+ temp gauge shows the average rather than real time? Just a thought as I'm not sure how that works...

Re: Fluctuating fuel gauge pointer

Nah, not for my application, no gauges are computer monitored.
