Shes alivee again....Turbo lq4 T/A

So recap..few months ago I hurt my previous lq4.

Turns out I spun a few bearings, scored the crank, damaged a few lifters, and had a few broken ring lands. Its amazing what these blocks will take for abuse because the cylinders look amazing still. A friend of mine is going to take that block and build a 408.

I got another lq4 with 200k.Had been sitting for sometime as it was bone dry.My 317 heads were still good so I swapped them over. They have btr dual 660 springs, trunion bushings, new valve seals, and milled .030.

Bottomend wise I did what most would, new timing chain, oil pump, gaskets etc.I choose a stage 2 turbo cam from Ljms. Specs are 226/231 .605"/.598" 113+4.My previous cam was a Tsp 228r(228/228 .588/.588 112) which was great n/a and decent with boost.Got it fired up yesterday afternoon and right away the car sounds different..throttle response seems slightly fast.

Few hours later after heat cycling it and checking for oil/coolants leaks it was time for some boost runs. The cam off boost seems to need retuning but when bost comes on it seems to be very smooth power delivery.I feel boost is building much faster than the previous setup also.Opening my cutout makes for major power increase also. Sorry for the noise in the next vid.Got tools and crap in the back of the car and I can hear the stock 9 bolt rearend howling on its way out.Fixing that later.

Hoping to get it on the dyno in a few days and clean up the tune.Id be happy if it makes the same power with less boost. And I plan on doing a pull or 2 with race gas for you guys on the dyno and pull some figures also..if i dont break something before then lol.

Sweet build. Glad it's back up & running. I'm building a turbo LQ4 as well. Taking a long though cause I'm trying to restore a whole car & I gotta save up for stuff. Wish I could speed up the process.

Thanks, I got alot to restore on this car aswell. The floors are quickly fading away.I want to upgrade the brakes to stop this train and also get rid of the stock 9 bolt rear.

A turbo lq4 is a fun daily motor

It will be nice to have a couple months of driving before winter. Glad you got it put back together again.

Nice to see its up and going again. Looking forward to move footage! You have a stock t56 in it? I just picked up one with a tick master and monster stage 4. Probably pull the 80e once she comes off the road.

Re: Shes alivee again....Turbo lq4 T/A

congrats man, my 10 bolt began to whine louder and louder after the ls swap and mine is n/a, the 9 bolts are more robust, but with your power level its on borrowed time lol . i lucked out and found someone local to me parting out a thirdgen, and was able to snag a currie 9 inch and threw some 4.30s in it , unfortunately it also had a detroit locker which i failed to realize, those take some getting used to lol. have fun

Thanks guys.

Wow Jay a stage 4 though, why not a twin disc instead? My t56 is stock and running the monster lt1-s and love it. Feels exactly like the ls7 clutch with more bite but extremely easy to daily drive.

As for the stock rear.Ive had extreme luck pushing both 9 and 10 bolts well over their rated power.I just never clutch dump them..its hurts my soul at the track..and my et but they survive and get me home if I roll into power.

Only did the stage 4 because it was a complete swap package. I woulda have like a twin disk and probably will end up with one.

a buddy had a twin disc rst? in a cobra he had , super light peddle and crazy grip , but man that thing could be a pain to install the trans if the discs and pilot weren't perfectly aligned haha but worth the effort haha , not cheap either haha

Re: Shes alivee again....Turbo lq4 T/A

The monster twin disc was super nice setup to install. My friend who did the motor swaps for me since I had no time to work on this myself, used to be an ace transmission tech. He was highly impressed with the ease of the twin disc and how it came pretty much ready to bolt on. I got about 500miles on the clutch and still almost used to the grip.I think the 4thgen clutch pedal springs is making the pedal feel heavier than it needs to be and i might just remove it. Its break your neck grip if you shift aggressive or dump the clutch out.Ive had 0 chatter.

So far tomorrow looks to be dyno day and power figures will be revealed.
