Free LS truck engine and trans worth it?

Dont know a thing about swaps or even have looked into ls swaps. But a buddy is junking a 2000 silverado. He told me if I wanted the drivetrain I could take it. Dont have anything to swap it into but the freebie has me thinking just to grab it. Runs great but is at 200,000. Trans has 100,000 on it. He just bought a new truck and was going to send it to the junkyard. It's a 5.3. Thanks

Free is free if you think you'll use it one day and have room to hang onto it. OR you could turn around and sell it for some cash, then split it with him. I think you'd get at least $800? for the combo

For free? As long as you have at least a temporary place for it and the ambition to deal with it, Sure. Hot rodders still want good 5.3's even though there were a billion of them. Someone out there will likely want to buy it.

Re: Free LS truck engine and trans worth it?

Cost of engine and trans = $0
Value of your time = $0
Cost to do something useful with it = $$$$$$$

Seems to me that the answer to your question isn't in the acquisition, but rather in the aftermath.

Is this a serious question? Ive been looking forever for a good core for my truck but these guys on CL think they are gold plated race engines.
If you dont want it Ill sure make use of it.

I think if you had to ask this question you might as well leave it alone.

Take it. Even if you don't use it you can part it out. 5.3 heads and the block can net you some pocket cash.
