Rod Bolt Design Question
Hi folks. I'm hoping someone more familiar with the LS platform can help me with this.
I've got an 2005 LQ4 I'm putting together. The rods are the gen 4 style (beefy, floating wrist pin, etc). There are two style of bolts that seem to be common - the first design, which appears to be knurled and has 1 dot on the head, and a second design that has a shoulder and 2 dots on the head.
Mine of course has neither knurling or a shoulder, and it has 3 dots on the head.
I've found one thread on LS1Tech indicating that it's a variation of the second design, the site that is cited to validate it is dead. I also have people on Facebook claiming it's a first design rod bolt.

It also indicates that these were used from 97-99 - but I have 2001 LM7 torn apart in the garage that definitely uses the first design bolt.
Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

What did the gen 4 rods come out of? They sound more like gen 3 rods cause all gen 4s have the sleeve on the bolt to keep them in place.

From what I understand, some 2004 and all 2005+ got the gen 4 rods. I don't think any gen 3 rods were free floated, and I don't think any gen 4 rods were press fit, so I'm fairly sure I've got the gen 4 rod.
There's a sleeve in the rod that stops the bolt from coming out, but the bolt itself isn't knurled or shouldered like what's in the literature I can find.

Why are you wondering about the bolts for? Without pics they sound like gen4 rods

I'm trying to find torque values - which all indicate there's two different designs, and that dictates what torque values to use.

Its the final revision of the Bolt (very common in Gen-IV Engines).
15 Ft/ Lbs and 85-Degrees is the spec (SAE 30 non-synthetic).
Usually comes out to about 48 Ft/ Lbs when I have Digitally Monitored the Torque generated during the 85* Rotation.
