Thirdgen fuel sending unit to work with 4th gen gauges.

I am running a 4th gen cluster/gauges from 99-02 and 0411, still using the thirdgen fuel tank and sending unit. Question is can I modify the ohm values in Hp tuners so that my fuel level gauge will work. Was going to buy a fourth gen tank but if this can be done I'd rather do it this way.

I've never tried myself but I don't think that's how it works. The resistance is in the level sender itself. Buy a 4th gen tank and finish it properly

In the 2000 Camaro instrument cluster wiring diagram, the fuel gage goes to a "solid state logic" and it's not clear to me what happens from there. I assume it talks to an ECM somewhere? I did not find the fuel tank level sensor within the very limited amount of wiring diagrams I have.

That cluster is late enough that it may be getting a lot of the info from the ECM via GMLAN vs direct resistance readings. I would expect the sending unit to provide a reading of 0-90 ohm, but again to the ECM not the cluster.

Yeah the cluster gets all it's info from the ecm via the "serial data" pin blue 58.

"The gauge cluster interprets class 2 serial data for the following gauges and indicators:
- ABS Inop indicator
- Airbag indicator
- ASR Off indicator (TCS Off in Firebirds)
- Brake warning (only to indicate loss of serial data signal)
- Change Oil indicator
- Check Gauges indicator
- Coolant Temperature gauge
- Fuel gauge
- Low Oil indicator
- Low Traction indicator
- Skip Shift indicator (M6 only)
- Service Vehicle Soon indicator
- Tachometer

I did some reading on the subject but couldn't find a definitive answer, I'm going to buy a fuel gauge for now and keep an eye out for a fourth gen tank for now.

4th gen level sender is 40 - 250 Ohm
