Good day all,
As of today, I am the "proud" owner of a 1988 Camaro Iroc-Z (one and only picture attached). As far as I can tell this thing is completely stock. It does have a Kenwood security system that looks factory where the control panel is built into the console, but it could be aftermarket. Anyhow, it doesn't work so no matter. :-)
It's red...mostly. There's what appears to be clearcoat "bubbling" on the top but the rest of the paint is in-tact, but fading fast.
The engine runs after I replaced the alternator today.
Couple of issues I need to figure out...
There is a distinct "thud" from the front passengers side of the car. There's also a pronounced screech coming from that side and what sounds like the remnants of a break pad grinding into the rotor when breaking as well. The previous owner states the breaks were recently replaced.
There are some nice cracks in the dash.
It still has the original IROC rims (gold) that need to be cleaned up. Previous owner stated that "You'll have to use something stronger than your average wheel cleaner." Not sure how I'm going to attack that yet.
This is a long project in the making... I look forward to being part of this community. :-)

Thanks! I'm so excited about getting started on my new toy. I'll try to post some more pics to this thread tomorrow so everyone (including me) will know what I'm starting with.

Welcome to TGO. It looks like you have a good car to start with. What are your plans for her? Keep up updated.

Re: New Member - Intro
I'm trying to prioritize that at the moment...
Here's my "to do list" thus far:
1. Investigate issue on the front end / passenger side.
2. Inspect brakes. They are really soft and don't stop well even though they were supposedly replaced recently (maybe related to #1)
3. Polish and "shine up" the extremely faded old paint as much as possible to have a better idea what I am working with. Couple of small surface rust spots forming. Sadly I feel a paint job coming up soon...
3b. *Try* to restore the gold Iroc wheels to factory shine. Not sure how to attack that one.
4. Repair the cracked dash pad as best I can, possibly with a fill the cracks, sand, and paint tactic. (Easy, cheap, and seemingly decent results from what I've read.)
5. Re-upholster/replace front seats. Currently covered with Wal-Mart seat covers by previous owner. Back seat original and still lookin' good.
6. Replace factory radio (non-working tape deck and FM only receives up through 99.5FM regardless of what the dial is set to)
7. Repair factory power door locks. Drivers side door locks/unlocks but passenger side "sticks" and doesn't fully lock or unlock. I'm hoping this will be a simple 'remove the door panel and lubricate the actuator' job.
8. Repair/Replace the metal "frame" around the rear glass. Rusted.
At this point I'm thinking I want to keep the appearance as stock as possible while building the engine a bit for some added performance.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on her. To tackle the wheels, pick up some aircraft stripper, and repaint them yourself.
You could use the same technique as me.

Replacing the metal trim around the rear window will be a real PITA. I just sanded mine down and painted it with Rustolem i think.
The locks might need lube or new buttons. New buttons are like $9 a piece at Eckler's Camaro.
