Primed up and looking good(before/after)
Well, after 2 engine installs and sitting for 8 months, it was time to reprime the ol girl, this time i went with the hight dollar sealer rather than laqer primer, even has a satin finish.
Before...

I found garbage bags are quicker and easier to use than stealing a bunch of green sheets from wal-mart.

My allergies went to crap for a couple of hours...

Getting her some sun after to help her dry out.

This was after she was all back together and a night of street racing, she did well with the new motor, i guess i am 4 wins 0 losses as of tonight.

Tell me what you guys think, i want to paint her, but it wont make my toy any quicker, my 86 TA gets paint first.

Wel, first go was a 05 chevy truck with a LS1,cammed,boltons and a 4.10 gear. 20 roll 2 tomes he was at my back bumper till i hit 3rd gear, that thing was quick for a truck, he claimed 14.00s. I have a 2.73 gear do a roll is better than a dig i figgure. The next was a 89 GT mustang with 306, cam, boltons. I thought this guy would give me a real run, cammed as hasd as my car and you know it is lighter, from a roll i pulled him pretty bad the 1st time, from a dig i sucked him up(gave him the move) and spit him out, he claimed 13.50s. That was the hardest i have pushed the fresh engine, took her to 6K rpm and she wants to go higher.

I is a simple cheapo build, scat 9000, arp bolted stock rods, 2 v relief hyper. speed pros, ported stock 70s heads, long tube headmans, i have dual cutouts, rpm airgap intake, 750 vac. sec. holley, i have a pro form to put in its place. The funny part is i am dragging so many people with a 2.73 gear, i cannot wait to get somthing better, i have a T56 that will be going in soon too. I like the hood, i am going to get another, up close you can see it is flawed and need love, i am not master body man so i will sell it and buy another.

Well, the L88 hood you see on it in the pic blew off at 140 MPH or so the other day, i found a 4 inch cowl new in box from glasstek for 200$. The L88 is scrap, it is busted pretty good, i have had it for 6 years on 3 different cars, who knows how many before me, i sanded 5 different colors off of it when i got it.

I'm lovin' the flat/satin black. More details on the paint/method perhaps? I'm just about to sand down my hood, hatch and roof and would like yo get the same look you have.

Re: Primed up and looking good(before/after)
I went the "cheaper" route and bought the "house brand" epoxy sealer, i got tired of the old flat black lacquer primer, the "cheap stuff" was 105 for the 1 gallon and 2 bottles of hardener(i think the reducer is mixed into the hardener as well). So compared to the 35$ flat black primer the sealer is actually not cheap, the other brand was 140$ for the same amount.
I went the distance, i sanded the car the night before with 150 grit, used scotch brite for the harder to get places so not to have those little specks show thru later that the sealer doesnt stick to.
The next day i picked up the product from the tasco auto color, this was my first time to spray sealer so there are 3 or 4 runs you cannot see in the pic. I used a matco gravity feed paint gun for the spray(it is the only one i posses). I hit the whole car again with 320 grit to eliminate any scarring dont by the 150. Then i air nozzle the car off, wiped the whole car down with paint prep which removes any grease from your hands or whatever else might be on the prepped surface.
I set the regulator to 28 LBS, mixed the product to the recommended 2 to 1 and gave it a good mixing. From there i test fired the gun to get a good even pattern on a shelf in my garage, then started on the roof of the car and worked down and around from there. Make sure you have plenty of light. I pulled the car out to bake in the sun and it revealed 2 spots that i need to touch up. It was ok to touch in 1,5 hours, but better left over nigh ad then bake in the sun.
From there you just wet sand any imperfections and then re apply your product, the sealer touched up great compared to real paint so it is not a big deal if you have no experience. It has a nice semi gloss finish that washes off way easier than primer, does not hold moisture and is very scratch resistant too. I am in love with it this far, i even have a little less than a half gallon left.
Remember, the more time and attention you take the better it will turn out. Make sure you have a compressor that will not fade your pressure down, i have a 60 gallon that does not skip a beat.
Glad you like it,
Zane
