Help!!!

Hello everyone out there, I need help with something. I need to know if there are any cheap effective ways to boost the speed of my 91 Camaro RS V6 the car has a lot of miles and I'm in the process of restoring/modifying it a bit but I'm trying to make some adjustments to get some speed/power out of it. I would also like to know if there are any adjustments I can do to it so I can give my brother a run for his money, he's restoring a 77 Trans Am 400 V8. I know his V8 can smoke mine, right now both ours are stock and I'd like to just know about a couple of things I could do that wouldn't be to expensive but would give him a run for his money,

Re: Help!!!

Not really cheap, but change the 3.42 open rear end gear to a 4.11 posi You'll gain acceleration, but you won't have the same top end any more...

Re: Help!!!

I was thinking about finding a 305 and suping it up a tad, any ideas on how I could get it suped up? I know that the cylinders can be bored bigger, any other suggestions. (and p.s. if I wanted to be an ******* I'd pour sugar in his gas tank. lol)

Re: Help!!!

If you're thinking of going as far as an engine swap, don't use the 305. Get the 350. And as always, nitrous is the biggest bang for the buck you can get. You could spray 150 shot on it all day and never hurt a thing. You'd be rocking out about 400 HP (on the bottle with the 350) then. Bet that would shut his pie hole!

Re: Help!!!

Welcome aboard.

My suggestion. Don't spend a cent on your car yet. Start reading on the boards. Learn about different engines and who is running what combos.

You're best off selling your V6 car and buying a V8 car.

You've got a lot of learning to do. Cars are fun, but going fast and being reliable is an expensive road to go down. The rule of thumb is pick 2: Fast, Reliable, Cheap.

Good luck. Keep reading on the boards! You can never read and learn enough!

Re: Help!!!

I bought my car for 200 bucks a couple days after last thanksgiving. The car had to be towed home and I just got it running a couple weeks ago, here are some of the improvements I've done to it: New Battery, Starter, Steering Column, Exhaust Manifold Gaskets, Knock sensor (i think),coil, etc and the car is almost completely apart And since all that time and effort it would be a huge disappointment for me not to finish it. I will probably put a 350 in it, keep the V6, fix it and just keep it until I finally decide to sell my car and sell it with the V6 in it and keep the 350. I'm competing with my bro. who is restoring a 77 T.A not only do I have to hear crap from my bro. all the time about my car I also have to hear it from my dad which pisses me off, so all their negative energy is just turning it into positive energy for me to fix this thing and get it painted, redo interior and rebuild v6 and replace with 350 V8, basically to get it in Mint Condition get it nice and fast as well!

Re: Help!!!

It's expensive to swap a V8 into a V6 car. You're talking a lot of time and money, especially for someone who's 16. If you've never built an engine or done extensive work on cars, this isn't the project to start with.

Re: Help!!!

I feel your pain on the v6 camaro thing however dont let it get to you. As far as a v8 swap well it is a bit more work than if you just started with a v8 car but if you are really attached to this car what I would do is decide what motor you would like to put in it. I would recomend a 305 or 350 tpi. Both of those motors could be inexpensivly tweaked enuf to stomp a stock pontiac 400 t/a. If you would like to do the swap as cheaply as possible fing yourself a cheap rotted out 85-92 iroc or z28. It will give you all the parts you will need 305/350 tpi, 700r4 with v8 bellhousing, v8 motor mounts, wire harness n computer, better suspension, and if your lucky a posi rear . It will be a bit of work and I would definatly rebuild the motor before dropping it in but that is the cheapest easiest way to do it short of starting with a whole new car
