Was She Worth $800?

I recently joined because I bought an 89 RS from a co-worker for $800 that her dad bought for her for graduation. Do you think it was worth it? It needs the typical 3 gen things (headliner, ac vents in the dash, seatbelt trim, seat covers, radio, etc) but the drivetrain seems to be in excellent condition. Its a 305, auto, T-Top. She said it was in a fender bender by her niece and the nose, hood, and driver's fender were replaced. Any suggestions what any of you would do to it? Thanks for the input.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

well, from what i see it looks pretty clean, and it apparently runs and drives. 800 was an absolute steal IMO, i would have picked it up.

what to do with it? sell it to me for 800 bux.....

seriously, new springs, shocks and struts, and some nice wheels/tires. Then enjoy it.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

Here are some more pics. The paint is down in some places but even the ac works. I'm in Upstate SC so I think Hawk's is not to far from me. It was an extra car in the family and they got tired of it being in the carport. I did'nt even argue over the price. I just jumped on it. Thanks for the comments.

You stole it! Get some 17 or 18 inch wheels on that thing! Down the road I would look at some 4th gen seats, fix whats broken and enjoy the summer with those T-tops OFF!!

Re: Was She Worth $800?

Great deal on your camaro. Even though it show its age, its still pretty clean. Found a good one to fix up. All the $900.00 camaros in my area arent really worth fixing or even drivable. There just a parts car. Enjoy your nice find.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

Thanks again for the compliments. I just sent off for the title in my name. The paint is really dull around the T-Tops and on the rear hatch and rear spoiler and showing a little primer in a couple places. It has a little curb rash on the pass. side ground effects and front fender and a small dent behind the rear tire in the quarter panel. The car has absolutely no rust that I can find. I would like to fix the headliner and visors first because it is in really bad shape. It needs tires so I'm going to get new wheels and tires at the same time. I'm holding off right now because the are doing some "workforce reduction" at work so before I spent a whole lot of money on it I want to make sure I still have a job. I keep it under a shed so she's not out in the weather all the time. Thanks again for the comments.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

I see you have the same problems with your arm rests that i had with my old ones. I have a set of black arm rests in geat shape if you want them. $25 plus shipping. Im in nc so it shouldnt be that bad shipping.

Yeah for 800 bucks I would say you landed a great deal. For all the cars I have seen on the NC/SC craigslist you couldn't have went out and found a car that nice for that price.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

My 89 RS 305/auto T-top gets 28-30mpg on the interstate. Almost as good as my g/f's Escort ZX2, so we take it on summer trips. Put on some nice tires, new shocks and struts and drive it. They aren't the fastest, but at around 30mpg on mine, I can't see taking it apart.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

Does she leak bad? Looks like pretty nasty stain on the back seat and the floor.

But otherwise, I think she was a great deal for 800.00

Re: Was She Worth $800?

very nice for the price, the L03 isn't the fastest thing out there but trust me, you can build them up nicely. Buddy of mine had a 350 TBI in his 88 chevy truck, he put a Holley TBI intake, Holley TBI and spacer, and headers on it. Thing was a bear lol. Throw in an LT1 cam you can get on teh cheep and you'll be doing alright.

BTW, I also may have lots of the parts you need to fix her up, got a t-top headliner in black with overhead console I'll sell cheap, PM me if you want more info, I have a ton of parts and I'll sell cheap!

Lots to do to the car. They where made to go slow. I have one. Its slow. If i had money I would do a single 3" exhaust, long headers. Get a high flow cat, & the most open muffler you can find. If your in a no smog state get the sealed cat, & scrap the whole smog system. Their are threads all over this site that tell how to do the smog delete the right way.

Get a good intake system, & cam. custom build a chip. That should be good for now.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

Thanks again for the compliments. For $800 I really can't complain if it leaks or not because I haven't washed it or left it out in the rain. I know the car has no rust because I have been all under it. The previous owner kept it in a carport and I also keep it in a metal shed. I also have a 64 Impala SS that my dad bought in 67 from his best friend's brother that bought it new, a black 69 Camaro. I'm currently working on a 72 Nova. So I know I won't be driving it in the rain because thats what my truck is for and I don't drive any of the others in the rain. Eventually when I get the car painted I will replaced all the rubber anyways. My daughter is 9 yrs old and she has already claimed it over anything else I have. I'm really waiting on warmer weather so I can mess with it. I did buy some front seat bolt plastic and dash vents for it on Ebay.

Here's a couple pics of our 69. Bought in May 05. Put the wheels, exhaust, Hotchkis rear springs, and new mirrors on it.

Re: Was She Worth $800?

I have to admit we do own a F**d. Its a 08 GT Mustang. We got it because we had a Dodge Magnum RT and had nothing but trouble out of the dealership we bought it from. So it was kind of a spare of the moment deal. Its my wife's daily driver. Anyone going to the spring Grand Rod Run in Pigeon Forge TN? We go up on Fri and stay in Gatlinburg for $60 a night compared to the $120 a night in Pigeon Forge that weekend. We then just drive up from there (5 miles). We have been going to the fall Grand Rod Run since 1996 and we've stayed at the same motel and go up to it on Thursdays for it. Anyone going in the spring or fall?
