Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Decided to do both lines to the BOV in stainless

Mounted the water pump for the intercooler here, not much room elsewhere

I have a large front mount oil cooler left over from another car, I'm probably going to use that for cooling the water. It fits tight in the front above the air dam.
Decided to coat the STB aluminum so it blends better w/ the engine bay. Was supposed to be all aluminum color but the coater messed up and coated the mounts black...oh well

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
finally got weld elbows in 3" 3mm wall aluminum so I can start on completing the ducting. Made a start today, it's darned tight. Had to remove the rad mount and will have to notch it to clear the pipe.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
OP,
Discussing radiators, would you make that shroud you made for yours to sell to members on this board or no? Only saying this because that shroud is mighty nice.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I have a cad file for it but my computer systems have been destroyed by water damage, this included my main station and my quadro system for solidworks. IF I can recover the file I'd be happy to share it. I live in the Netherlands so making them here is not cost effective because of the conversion rate & shipping.
I did finish that last pipe today
I'll blast it for an even texture and maybe have it powdercoated, not sure yet

I have vids of it running without the SC hooked up.
I'm waiting on my 62 lbs injectors, stil have to wire up the maf and install an ostrich 2.0 and fiddle w/ the tune

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Finally got something done again, I swapped the injectors for Deka/Siemens 62s and I blasted the SC to intercooler pipe to mimic the cast look of the other components. It's a little lighter in color because the rest is a little dirty. Some WD40 is going to clean that right up.
I managed to F up one of the threads in the manifold whilst swapping the injectors. The thread was already questionable, someone must have tried the wrong fastener or didn't use anti seize. So, it turns out it's a thread I don't have in my timesert kit
ugh have to order that now.

Also wired up the MAF using a 5 pin weatherpack connector, have to wire last 2 wires to IAT (internal in the film type maf), fans are also final wires so all wiring is complete. Tomorrow I'm going to install a big oil cooler that I'm going to use as a water cooler for the IC. IT fits snug in the front lower opening

Got the water cooler done today, I'm pretty sure this will be enough without having to hang coolers and crap in front of the rad. This thing is more than a fist thick

Build looks like it's going GREAT! I was recently talking to a freind of mine that I hadn't seen in some time and he was telling me about how a buddy of his sold a red IROC to someone accross seas.....Said apparently the guy was doing some crazy build on it and he was almost positive it was in the Netherlands. Did you happen to buy this car out of CT??

The buildup on this car started way before he bought the 1LE.

As for the 91 1LE, if it's ACs car, my buddy bought it, not me.

Do you know him personally? I asked him a few questions in a PM but never got a reply. I figured all of it out by myself, except where the blinking led is for behind the passenger side kick panel. It flickers with the car running and there's a **** above it.

I don't know him personally but have spoken to him many times through the forum. My other freind I'm almost positive does know him personally though. I can always mention it to him. It wouldn't be some sort of boost retard **** maybe would it?

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Finally got a Hobs switch. I'll have to do something about the plumbing, I hate it like this w/ the brass elbows. I'll have to find a 45 deg aluminum adapter and point the thing down to the throttle body so the eyesore is not as obvious.

almost done...

started on wiper fluid reservoir, I goofed and didn't account for the hood height when I designed it (oops) so my filler cap won't fit, I'll have to find a flush mount one so I left the top of the tank unfinished. Still, I'm pretty pleased w/ the result and how it tucks away.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
you could make a spout coming off from the back of the reservoir towards the firewall of the car, and add a filler cap there mounted flush with the height of the tank

Yes but that's going to look like crap. I have 2 of these reservoirs, one for the 82 trans am also (well, the cut parts that is, still need to weld that one up) and I found a solution, I bought 2 of these

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Man I lucked out!!!! The hood actually closes LOL. It's sooo close, it's not even funny. Especially where the BOV line is.

but the most important is... it's closed

I also installed the lines for the water intercooler. I ordered too short a length to complete it
I need to order some more -12 line for the last stretch from the rear of the IC (highest point) to the pump. The rest is done, line visible on the right

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Woohoo, its all complete and running again
, the intercooler is plumbed & filled w/ water. Pump is working (only have to hook up a relay to switch it on using the hobbs switch) All is running with the custom film type maf in an lt-1 elbow using a triple range extended custom prom w/ help from Greg @ Blowerworks.
I did reposition the hobbs switch to get rid of the brass elbow eyesore

plumbing the water side of the intercooler cost me more hose and adapters that I figured. Ended up needing a 90 deg npt adapter as well.

Now to fine tune this thing, fix the door hinge on the pass side and then it's off to the painters....well...if I don't find a set of S10 door handles that is, I never liked the originals
Pretty proud of how it turned out

No, I got the caps and they are aluminum but the weld ring is stainless
can't use them. 100$ worth of useless parts LOL
I'm going to buy some different ones w/ pop up caps, they do have an aluminum weld ring but as usual....it takes a lot of time for that stuff to get here.

I liked the initial idea better too but they are not available with aluminum weld bungs so it's a no go.
It's probably going to take weeks and weeks. The brokerage dept of the mail service here is super slow (but super expensive too)

No real news, I'm messing with the tune to get it to run correctly. Right now it runs and revs fine in park but not in D. Lots more number crunching to do.

Stock ECM with triple range maf extended tables. All with help from Grag Carroll @ blowerworks. He's an awesome guy, helpful & friendly. I got the film type maf from him too as well as a bunch of other parts. If you need stuff, I'd recommend going through him. His parts are all top quality. Great attention to detail, especially in the wiring harnesses and the instructions are superb.

I seen the MAF and setup you did for that. Along with the tune help from bw. With all the work your doing any reason you didnt swap to speed density and say $59 code or something like holley 950 commander , etc..

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
My buddies 91 1LE has code 59 and it's not running perfect either, in fact it's running rich and I doubt it would meet emissions standards here, it certainly won't as it is.
The 91 GTA is running it's stock speed density ECM and is a bitch to tune partly because of the cam. I can honestly say that my maf setup should be a lot easier to get right, it certainly runs a lot cleaner with a rough tune compared to the SD setup.
For instance, before I swapped to 60lbs injectors I was running 32s with the intention to run a superfueler (I have 2 lying around), with the SC not hooked up it actually ran just fine w/ those 32s, stock tune & stock maf.

Interesting... I'll deff. be keeping an eye on how you do with the setup.
Ya I you bought one of those superfuelers with 55lb injectors from me.

Oh yes, the TB plate. The rest of the system consists of a control box and an injector driver box. I should some day sell off some of that old stuff I'm not using LOL.
