i personally think wheel choice number 2 flows a little better and makes it look sleeker

I like the black wheels however I'd prefer them an inch or two smaller with a little more rubber, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Didn't have any other material to shop w/ they would be 19s or 18s front 19s rear w/ a lot more sidewall than that
Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
well. this is my opinion. leave the decals as is. tint the windows. then do the black wheels. the subtle silver decals, the black stripe and tinted windows, and the silver decal in the center caps ( to me) give the car depth and contrast.

Honestly, I like the BMW wheels. I think the black wheels would look pretty good though, but I think they'd look best in an 18" and with a polished lip.

I hate polished, I can only stand machined, satin finishes, blacks and carbon fiber LOL I'm an anti-crow. If it shines I stay away from it

To each his own
I hear you though, I'll take a machined or "brushed" finish, that's the best. And dear god I hate chrome... I have nothing against a nice polished aluminum or stainless finish though.
I like the black wheels, just not the red lip.

I think the red lip would go nice w/ the red car. Just like old school redline tires...I always liked thoise.
I hate chrome too, even worse than polished. Have to agree that sometimes polished alu or stainless will look good but only in moderate quantities

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I already have them in 18" on my 88
Anyway....I fabricated a mount for the intercooler today. Since I hate drilling holes I used the factory support bracket between the fender and front lower frame rail and a hole that was once used for an AC line.

I made a quicky rod ended bar to stabilize the setup. Didn't have the material for a threaded sleeve so I welded some nuts to a piece of solid round bar for now. Will replace it with something proper later on

It's all real tight over the valve cover. A little foam helps it from scratching/rattling. Good thing I have solid motor mounts and nothing moves there

Now all I need is a custom super short MAF and an elbow to the TB and the other side of the piping fabbed.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
front mount what? intercooler?
Front mount sucks it's super ugly with all the pipes, the scoop scrapes and an air to air intercooler is nowhere near as efficient. This is a neat and tight package like this.
Fits like a glove, just needs a reducer to hook the 2 together. I may stick a custom maf inside the elbow since I want it between the cooler and the TB

installed a 3rd gauge

and then realized I forgot to put a bung in the pan for a mech gauge and the canton adapter that I had apparently is for an LT1...oops!!
I hope this will do the trick. Made this adapter, the mech gauge bulb screws in the brass end.

Also hooked up the crank case ventilation to the suction side of the SC. The can is an oil seperator to keep oil out of the SC.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
This is my finished oil temp bulb setup and it works like a champ. The exhaust protects it from getting ripped right off

Also finished the lower support rods for the tranny cooler, this keeps it from flopping around and hammering against the tank straps

I made them from round stock and welded tabs to the end, looks pretty oem compared to the other braces on the car w/ the stamped flats

Again I used factory holed on the rear tub, these are the ones originally for the muffler heat shield

Exactly what wheels are those? They look pretty good, you should go with 19" and a 26" tall tire front and rear. You should paint them like this...

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
around 1K in dollars (less in euros so the currency conversion screws it up a bit it was 750 in our currency) or so but that's including all the blasting and there's a primer coat under the color coat.
I have a powdercoating setup (small hobby one) and a blasting cabinet but for that little money I'm happy to have them do it.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Well, turned out my alt was sticking up too far and interfering with the ducting from IC to TB, had to modify the linkage so I could swing it further inboard and down. This little alu adapter piece did the trick

Also, the edelbrock STB still fits! woohoo! That's a big bonus, I was already thinking I had to fab something myself.

It's tight but with solid motor mounts and the IC mounted solid, nothing is going to move

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Not a lot but I finished welding an extension/adapter ring to the elbow so I can more easily slip the coupler over it. It also needed it because it was too short. Helps pull the intercooler straight too, I tossed the rod ended link, not needed now. Much cleaner Eventually I'll probably weld the elbow to the TB front adapter.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
hey man the car looks awesome. I just painted my engine compartment and now im in the wheel wells. the seams where the wheel well meets the piece behind the rear seats all rotted out and they are no longer attached. You can see right into the car. whats the best way to fix these wheel wells and whats the best stuff to use to prevent any rust from ever coming back? i have a little behind the rear liscence plate and just some surface rust under neath near the rear floor pan at the seam. also what did you use to complete the underneath. is that just under coating? and again the car looks great

Wish mine had an engine in it.
But anyways, car is looking great! Been a while since I've checked up on your thread. The way that supercharger and intercooler is mounted looks like it was meant to be in there! Things going to be a screamer when it's done. Any dates on when your expecting it to be about finished? I'm shooting for this coming spring. Not sure if it's going to happen but my fingers are crossed, haha.

No, not really. Still waiting on parts, that's always the problem here...wait wait....
I did fab a hard line for the blow off valve and an adapter for the filter for the BOV, still need to swap the temporary blue samco hose for some black hose w/ clamps.

This better? Still have to replace the bottle

This will be my water pump for the intercooler:

and the alt relocation is done too, it works like a champ. I have a smaller pulley for it to decrease charging RPM a little

I got at least something done again. Got the HPX MAF and welded the mounting block to my intake elbow. The MAF has an integrated IAT so I ditched the stock one and am using that now. Pretty pleased with how it come out, looks clean and compact. No excessive hose clamps & coupler sections. Crappy phone pics
