My 89 RS getting paint
Well, i spent 3 days doing this and it is not finished yet, but i will have the final coat on tomorrow. I want to paint it the same it was but i foud this cheap hunter green for 30$ plus activator and reducer.
End result, basically a better than it was paint job, but the humidity was killing me and it even started raining, not to mention my spray gun was not working as it usually does. I will redo the finish later, but for now i am happy with it. I will update later.

I like the color, but the job it self looks like crap from the humidity.

Re: My 89 RS getting paint
Alright, i am pleased with how this turned out. I didnt have enough black so i dumped about the same amount of the green and it was fine, it is still black, just a touch lighter.
Not bad for a BS job, i wanted to do this so badly with these wheels, i think the offset is great with the color and there was a thought to go with the black from the middle body line on up, but this is great.
I will update when i get all the rest of the lights and grille in.

Re: My 89 RS getting paint
Nice cars!! I really like the green with black! The last one you posted, is that a flat black or black primer? I really like that look. I am looking to paint my car myself, is it as hard as it looks?

Re: My 89 RS getting paint
The black one is actually primer sealer, it goes between the surface primer and the actual paint. They also offer a hotrod black that is about the same color. The sealer fades over time unlike actual paint.
It is not TOO hard, but you need practice to get good enough to want to shoot your own car. You need a clean area with good ventilation but keep debris off the fresh paint.
The more you do it, the better you get. You need to know when you can and cannot spray if you care. High humidity is impossible to make a good paint job. Plus the prep work takes WAY more time than the painting process.
You simply get better with time, between getting a mixture right and reducing it to spray correct and learning to adjust your spray gun, it doesnt happen over night.

Well, the green one was 110$ for the sealer, plus sand paper ect. The green one was 27$ for the cheap green.

Re: My 89 RS getting paint
PRimer was about 30$, thinner 25$, sand paper about 20$, paint 27$(green), paint 10$ (pint black), reducer 12$, activator 12$, wax and grease remover 20$, masking tape 15$, newspaper to cover windows ect...free green sheets, old sheet cut to 4 even sections to cover tires..used, DA sander 65$, paint gun kit 80$, 60 gallon compressor 699$, air hose 20$....think that covered everything.

Re: My 89 RS getting paint
Well, if you have never sprayed before, you need to practice. You need someone to give you a input on the paint you use to give you a short cut on how much to reduce it so it turns out better also. I used a HVLP gravity feed, i have 4 of them.

Im not sure if it is the same as in the air craft world, here in the air force thats our acronym for high volume low pressure

It is temporary, if the body work was perfect i would. So the car will be getting repainted in a year or something to that nature.
