project IRIS

well im kinda new to this site, and well im a gear head, i picked up a wrench when i was 5, and well, the rest was history, ive wanted a camaro ever since i can remember.

i worked on it for 3 days to get it running, and finaly got to drive it

she needed some work to say the least but there was just something there, i wanted it, she ran great. its only a 3.1 litter , but its got a t-5 trans

she is a 1992 rs, i named her IRIS....

i paid 500 for the car and drove it out of her back yard over heating all the way home,

one fan temp switch, a trans mount later, and she was on the road.......

currently ive got about 900 all together in the car,

almost all hotchkis suspention

-springs 2.5 inch drop
-adjustable pan hard bar
-and the linkage rebuild kit front hotchkis too
-lower ball joints
-strut tower brace
-HID head lights
-magnaflow exaust
when i got her the front end was hit, and the hood was rusted to ****, but she came with a brand new hood still in the box
and i replaced her nose and right front fender, so her body is straight now

she gets painted in november

and ive got a 305 iroc tpi engine sitting in the garage getting torn down soon for her rebuild, hoping for 400 ponys at the flywheel

will post picks soon

Re: project IRIS

ok guys, just did my exhaust and my sub box,

the exhaust is 2.5 inch in and out on a magnaflow stainless muffler
with 2.5 inch pipe and a 18inch long 3 inch chrome tip.

the sub box is covered in black carpet, and sits flush with the ledges in the rear well.
the box is holding up a 10inch kicker solo barac L5........
also putting the amp on a amp rack in the rear storage bay along with a digital capacitor.

Re: project IRIS

Thats a nice ride! Great base for a project. Iris is coming along nicely. Its great 2 see people fixing these cars up instead of letting it sit and rot. Looking 4ward to seeing more pics.

Re: project IRIS

ive decided to change her name, from iris, to phantom. i think it fits much beter with the car and the white and black color choices im doing, white with sinted windows and black lace style wheels with a large machined lip, black rotors and silver or black will wood calipers, slightly darker tail ling lenses and shes got a black interior, i think the name fits well.................

Great score on the rims! I have a 97 Z28 and my wife hit a pothole bending one of mine - I just dished out $200 for a set on CL and I thought I did good!

Re: project IRIS

hey mr. cover page!!

it will stay white, i thaught about gun metal gray but i think the white with black accents will pop very nicely

i believe the pics that were posted last are currant, ill take some new ones, soon as im finish the first phase of the suspention , its still runing a v6 so no real engine mods, just reliability in mine right now, i have the tpi iroc in my garage for it

tires and body work goin to be done soon also,

i think u did a great job on ur dads car, and as i remember your article stated it was your first build, u should be very proud, your dad would be..........

Re: project IRIS

Nice project build its looking pretty good. Im also building a 90 RS i bought it for 150 dollars no engine no trans, originally i was rebuilding my 92 Rs, the project had to much things to do, the floor pan was rusted out(cost 200 for a new floor pan) and there was too much surface rust on the suspension and frame, so i bought a nice looking 90 for cheaper than the floor pan. Anyways goodluck with the project.

this spoiler is a proto type. there is a mounting bracket mounted in side there stock spoiler, and billit washers are used for better serface area in mounting it with its five countersunk 5/16 screws,,

KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PROTO TYPE

If you are doing the silver state classic I don't know if those bolts will be enough to anchor that lip to the deck-lid.

A lip that big is going to generate alot of downforce and drag at speeds.

Is it anchored in any way we can't see in the pics?

Re: project IRIS

I wouldn't worry about the wrap around. Is it made or real deal carbon fiber? Im also wondering about more anchor points. You had it over 100 yet?

Re: project IRIS

there is a frame inside of the stock spoiler that the 5/16ths bolts go into.. it is real deal carbon fiber, pain in the a.. to make the first one from scratch.. next ones will go much better... yes ive had it over 100 and no problems so far. and the washers are huge, so the stress points shouldnt be a problem either, but het its a proto type so if there is a flaw, we will change it, but so far so good, at about 80 you can start to feel the back end be a little more planted

Re: project IRIS

You gonna sell them? If the price is right I would be down for one. They arn't exactly a show quality piece, but would look good on my little rat. Remind me of the hawks, but hopefully not as expensive!

Re: project IRIS

yea , we might start producing them, we need to make a mold off on this one and then see were it goes from there, we talked about producing them just haven't thought of a price yet, its def not a show piece, purely for function, but atleast it still looks good doing it lol

Re: project IRIS

Would flow a bit more with the back end if you put some transitional pieces on the fender caps.

Looks good.

Re: project IRIS

so within the next 6 months, it should be painted, the intereor will be fitted with new seats, and re upholstered , and will have new wheels and tires , while we are waiting to find a good lt1 with fairly low milles for a good price... or thats our goal, paint and seats should be done by mid november

Re: project IRIS

Nice car and it's cool to see it coming back to life. Cool to see that you're getting an LT1 too, because 400 hp out of an N/A 305 is kinda ambitious.
