Just got my first car, 1982 Z28

Hey guys, i wanted to finally be able to say i own one, and im posting some pictures below, the body is beat to hell but is honestly not too bad. The motor was rebuilt with zero miles on it, guy drove it down the block parked it and there it sat till i got it a few months later. I got this car for free because i traded some misc things for it. Trailered it home threw a carb on her and she fired right up. The motor is either a 327 or a 350, block number is 3970010. It has headers on her too. None of the gauges work except the battery, i believe it ether has a turbo350 or turbo400 trans in it, but somethings leaking and the timing is way off on this motor.

Let me know whatcha guys think of it. I just need to go get a carb and a battery and then shes good to go.

If someone could let me know how to crosscheck the vin to see whats stock gears in the rear that would be nice, also can someone point in the direction of my RPO codes on an 82?

Cool first car. Friend of mine had one just like it we beat the crap out of it.

The block in that car is a good one. The 010 serial number indicates it's a high nickel content block. Also, I believe the 010's were all 1960's/70's era 350's. I run one in my car. Get the timing set and it should run real strong.

Good luck with it. Post better pics

Re: Just got my first car, 1982 Z28

Congrats! Looks like it will be a fun project for you. Hows is the body and interior? And yes the 010 block was used for everything from LT-1's to two-barrel truck/van engines. The block in my Nova is a 010 with 4 bolt mains as it was at one time a L82 vette engine.

And a 71 350 should be painted orange, did the seller give you any info on the engine? Blue engines were used from the late 70's until 82 when GM went to "coporate" engines. It may also be possible it was rebuilt at some point and painted blue... But none the less, get it tuned up and have fun!

Re: Just got my first car, 1982 Z28

It was rebuilt, drove down the block, parked and the guy took the carb off and left, he has some felonies and a warrant so im guessing he threw the **** back together to move it and got the hell out of wisconsin. the people i got it from knew nothing that he did to it so i have no idea, i pulled the valve covers and stock rollers are on it, idk about the internals though, i believe it has a cam from running it it lopes really heavy. The body is pretty rusted out, i mean its my first car, no big deal i was more interested in the motor, although the interior is pretty much mint minus the cracked dashpad, and none of my gauges are hooked up

Good find. You can check compnine.com and enter your vin #. This will give you a list of RPO codes for oyur car. Also will tell you the date it rolled of the assembly line and where and all that good stuff. Where are you located in Wisconsin?
