Re: My 91 RS Project
I haven't went through the car totally, but so far I have found one small dent in the passenger door with a small bit of rust. The owner before the guy I got it from did a rattle can job on the car. In spots you can see there is perfectly good paint underneath.
Interior pics will come soon!

Re: My 91 RS Project
good start to a project. I would sand all the paint off the car to bare metal if you wanted to repaint it. Cant spray good paint ontop of bad rattle can.
goodl luck on fixin her up. cant wait for more pics.

I plan on it....just to find all the imperfections and such. I have some small things to do first before I go on a full scale sanding war.

Re: My 91 RS Project
here are some interior pics. the one of the rear hatch its hard to see but it was welded on.
this is why you don't slam doors.

my hack job stereo install! thanks go out to the moron who cut out the harness.
the door that you see (driver's side) needs a new hinge pin set. if you know where i can pick up a new or slightly used set please pm me. gm does not make this part anymore according to the body shop i went to.

Im taking the car apart to have some sound deadener put in by a local audio shop. Doing it is cutting about 300 dollars out of what it would cost me.

got more of the interior apart, will take more pics tomorrow. hopefully i will have my new hatch assembly in (thanks kurfbird) and im crossing my fingers that if it needs adjusted, i can do it myself. the rear glass is one heavy sob.
I noticed something in the pics....didn't the Z cars only have the grid tails? I know mine isn't a Z....but maybe one of the po's put em on?

Re: My 91 RS Project
Thanks guys. I should have the car completely gutted in a few days...graveyards suck. I might work on it when its slow. I got the new latch motor and assembly in today, just need to adjust the hatch and the motor to get it to work right.
Are the manual consoles different than the auto ones? I am looking at doing a 350+T56 setup. The LSx conversion looks like too much of a wiring nightmare for me going from a 3.1 I still laugh at it....how did gm make that engine have a firing order of 1-2-3-4-5-6?

Re: My 91 RS Project
The console is not your main problem.
If you currenty have an auto you need to fit a clutch pedal. That means making an additional hole in the firewall, fitting the cutch pedal and the workings.
As for the console, the shifter gate is different. The way the console is built up I guess that means swapping the console as well.

Re: My 91 RS Project
it wouldn't be much more wiring than what you're going to have to do already for the 350 swap unless you've already got a harness for the swap.

Re: My 91 RS Project
for that i would have to get parts....etc. more than likely i would be searching bone yards for a donor car.
I am trying to get the hatch aligned. w/ pics how would i make the correct adjustments to pull the glass to the body?

not sure if this helps, but does this look like the appropriate latch style for the 91 model?

Re: My 91 RS Project
i got more done today, the hatch is annoying me so i have the car almost ready to tear carpet out. holy crap....how much padding is really under this stuff? anyway, im glad im doing it. pulling some of the carpet in the passenger floor pan...well its starting to rust. and i found some body rust too....so i think that its not going to be quite as easy as i thought.
However, its not close to PITA territory yet.
