I don't know of any headers, long or short, that you can install without moving the motor around. Not enough clearance.

Re: Best headers...

You dont need to move the motor around for any headers that I know off. So who ever told you that is mistaken.

I have a pair of Hedman 68460s that were pretty easy to install, all they need is a small notch on either the K-member or the header itself on the driver side and they fit perfectly. I had to remove my starter on the pass side and Oil pressure sensor on the driver and Spark plugs on both sides. Both came in from the bottom.

I am sure you know that longtubes will need alot of work and thinking to get the best clearance for them. Even more if you run true duals. Making them into a single exhaust would require fabbing up a custom Y pipe as well. If you are still set on it, look into the Hedmans. Love em even gonna install them on my buddies 89 T/A.

Also you might get more responses in the exhaust section, check out the stickies there as well. I spent a full day looking at the duals sticky thinking of ways to route my exhaust.

Re: Best headers...

Mine needed and according to others it confirms it, but they needed a small notch on the k-member on the driver side. My 68460's were used so they had the small dent on them already and fit like a glove. The notch is on the first cyl tube if I recall.

If I were to get new ones. I would just notch the k-member instead. Either way I am going Tubular K-member soon.

Those are the 68460's. Good price on them too, you can even find used ones for around $100 or less on here. Mine had a coating of rust of course like every header gets. I coated them with VHT High temp paint but it got chipped really bad from the install but then again now I can install and uninstall them in seconds after they are unbolted. Just make sure you lift the front end enough to get enough clearance.

Also if you buy them used, get the ball & socket version which is the newer style. Mine are flanged due to being the older style. Its just nice feature to not need gaskets.
