painting help

hello all, saterday i am replacing my engine with an engine out of a 93 s10 and im going to paint the block before i put it in, im doing what some call a "mexican" engine job. im pulling the engine, fixing a few things, then painting and dropping it in. so im not tearing the engine down at all so i need advice on how to paint the engine. im painting it chevy red-orange engine paint from autozone, rated at 600 degress so any tips?

Re: painting help

Get a wire brush or two, maybe even one to go on a drill to get the heavy sediment/old paint off. Mask off everything that shouldnt be painted (IE: Spark plug threads, etc..). Also grab a bottle of Acetone and some rags to wipe the block down with prior to painting it.

Re: painting help

Purple power is an excellent degreaser, it is what I use on everything. Just be careful not to get it into places you wouldnt want it, like in your alternator, sensors, etc..

Re: painting help

Just make sure you get all the purple power off before you paint, and try not to rush it. When you get into a rush thats when the paintjob starts to look pretty bad. If you're going to use acetone, use it as the last step, it works wonders on getting the surface clean and dry.

Should only take a day with drying time and such.
