Heavy on the Ugly... build thread

A couple of weeks ago an 85 Z28 followed me home. It had driveability issues, scale, an ugly interior and crappy tires. But, it was also cheap and solid.

So far, power comes from a 305TPI through a 700R4. Gearing is 3.23, open and drum rear brakes. The car is pretty much stock (although I have changed a couple of things already).

The direction I see the car going in (which is subject to change at any time... it has already been 4 different colors in my head) is that it will retain a very stock-ish appearance. I don't see any huge body mods happening, nor many blatant changes on the interior, but I do see a lot of tweaking. It will NOT be a show car or a race car... it will be a driver. My wife should be able to toss the short people that live in the house into the car and take them somewhere... at the same time, since I do cove a lot of shows for my CoolCaroftheDay website, I don't want the car to be an embarrassment. I also have a history of Autocrossing, so i want to be able to take the car out for a little cone-bashing without people laughing too hard.

One of the Camaros that has always been on my radar is the 3rd Gen 1LE cars. I know that they weren't T-Top cars, nor did they have A/C... mine has both... and living in the south, A/C is non-negotiable abut 5 months of the year. But, that doesn't mean that I can't blend up a car that the factory never built, using components and options that were available from GM. Model years and option combinations are wide open. Aftermarket stuff is in the works, too...

I hope you enjoy.

There are a lot more pictures of the "Before" variety available on the pre-build post at CoolCaroftheDay.com. here is the link.

Re: Heavy on the Ugly... build thread

In that last few minutes, we've knocked out a few things... ok, it was actually in the last couple of weeks, but I just started the thread...

Aside from the wheels, I picked up another set of seats (which are installed, but need to be recovered) and a bunch of small parts. I'm also getting ready to try to recover the dash with vinyl. Obviously the current dash is seriously cracked. I know that there are a few other options, but I ran across some vinyl for little money and needed an excuse to buy it. I was also thinking of using it to cover some of the interior panels.

Here is a new post on my site...

@88camaroscv6, That looks pretty good... $700 is a pretty good deal for a good spray.
