After a few painful months of searching, I finally found one. 89 Iroc, pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I know it has a few issues, wrong wheels, iroc decal in the the wrong place on the door, black side mirrors, I'm sure there are more, but it's a pretty presentable ride for what I paid for it, and a good solid start to what I would like to do with it later on. Planning on just driving it and enjoying it for now, but hoping to do an LS1 swap, different wheels, stereo, and a few more mods over the next few years. Had kind of a crappy trip home with it, bought it about 4 1/2 hours from where I live, took off with it, made it two hours and it just started acting like it wasn't getting gas and died on me. Let it sit and it fired right up? Luckily it died in the driveway of a diesel repair business and the owner was kind enough to let me keep it there for a couple days until I could come back with a trailer. Picked it up today, fired right up, trailered it home and it fired right up again. Not sure what's up with that, but hopefully will get that figured out and a few more small issues over the next few weeks. Just happy to be a 3rd gen owner again, It looks good in the garage next to the 87 Monte Carlo SS!!!

Re: Finally back in the 3rd gen game!

Nice looking car, as soon as you said what year it was the first thing that popped into my head was the iroc decals are in the wrong spot lol, then I saw that you already knew that. That would drive me nuts, I would either take them off and leave them off or replace them and put them in the right spot. As for the problem you're having with it, sometimes when the "ignition control module" goes bad it can cause the car to die and lose spark when it gets hot, and once it cools back off again it will run fine. Auto Zone can test some of them off of the car, so I'd call an Auto Zone if you have one nearby and ask them to check and see if that's one that they can test and if they can I'd take it in there and have them test it. Nice car man and good luck with it! I like the sound of your plans!

Re: Finally back in the 3rd gen game!

Thanks everyone! EJBal, I know where you're coming from on the decals and other things driving you crazy. But I haven't had a 3rd gen in over 15 years so just to have one again in the color I was wanting is pretty exciting so I'm trying not to sweat the little stuff that would usually bother me too. Control Module or fuel pump is kind of the general consensus for the moment. I think I might just replace both and go from there. It probably has enough miles on it to justify a new fuel pump anyway if that isn't the problem.

Great car. I'd love to have an Iroc with ttops. And maybe check the fuel filter on the dying problem. Have that happen to me with my truck.
