My first & only car! 86 Iroc-Z28

Heres a picture of when I got in 2005 with 93,000 original miles it was in almost immaculate condition. I paid $3900 for it, I found it on IROCZONE & bought from Jason Lodder. My father & I rode the greyhound up to Amarillo to meet the buyer halfway, he was in New Mexico. I was 17 when I got it.

Heres a pic @ a reststop.

I decided on the Roto-joints because of how easy they are to maintain. I've also heard nothing but good things about them. They should give me a good solid ride & keep it as comfortable as possible and they are quiet....

Not like I would hear them if they made noise anyways. My stereo is almost always full blast. lol

It was a painless installation. The parts all felt very sturdy & the finish looked great.

I took for a little drive aftewards and the first thing I noticed was more road noise transference, which was expected. Its not so bad. Second thing I noticed was how much better the car went over ups & downs on the road, I also heard less rattling from all the loose components in my 25+ yr old car. Guessing that Roto-joints doing there job. Definitly more control going around the corners as well.

Overall it as a great buy, I think the increase in performance would have been alot more dramatic had not already installed my Koni's.

I think I'm gonna do SFC's next, or swaybars.....

Does anyone know how much lift I can get out of these vortec heads if I have the valve guides machined down & have screw in studs installed?

Heres another link I found with what looks to be about 50 pages of vortec talk. Credit has to go to TGO member 99olo for finding this & posting it on another thread I was reading.

Re: My first & only car! 86 Iroc-Z28

Appreciate the suggestions, I'm actually going with the silver stripe package, I've had them in my closet for over a yr now.... I'll get them put on on eventually. I think its funny how some ppl will be walking by the car at a random place like bst buy or the grocery store & this happens...

Guy 1: Thats a nice car.

Guy 2: Is that an IROC?

Guy 1: Nahhh its just a Z28.

lol....

Re: My first & only car! 86 Iroc-Z28

Engine swap has been moving along slowly. I've been putting all of my freetime into the GTA. It feels like I finally got it running good!

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...y-swiftly.html

I should be able to get going on my engine swap as early as tomorrow!

I finally got the shortblock back yesterday. I need to remove the harness & a few other misc things to start painting the engine bay!
