Hey! They worked tonight except for a few! What a sharp looking car. Amazing what some time and elbow grease can do. Also, for your VATS system, if you find out the resistance of the chip in the key, you can wire a resistor in the circuit and use a normal key. If going that way I would also wire in a kill switch in a hidden location.
So its finally running!! After checking everything I finally nailed it down to VATS, at first I did the resistor trick but that still did not get it done for some reason.
So I decided to get a tune and got VATS EGR and the AIR removed along with it. The work was done by local member 1bad91z and I would recommend him to anyone looking to get their TPI tuned.
Very interesting, they just called it something else for the Camaro. Also that explains why most literature I see mistakenly calls my Firebird color by the Camaro color name.
I had no idea they used that for the Camaro too. For the Firebird is was one of the 4 special 1992 only 25th anniversary Firebird colors (not to be confused with the Trans Am anniversary which is a different year).
They also used the same 18 code color on the Chevy Caprice that year as well, FYI.
Hah yeah that definitely is a lot! Too bad about the engine. What happened?
Good to hear you found a new one quickly. Can't wait to get more updates!
The initial start up went terribly wrong, it revved up extremely high and than something broke.
I was way to excited when I finally got injector pulse. My brother and I had been trying to figure out the problem for months. The problem of course was vats. When I went to turn it on the first time I made the rookie mistake of leaving a couple vacuum lines open. and on top of that after removing and installing my drivers side runner so many times the gasket was completely gone so that was a huge problem as well.
Anyways lesson learned. It will not happen again lol
This Crappy Texas Weather has been stopping me from working on the car all week. But today after work I had a good 5 hours with it and I managed to make a good amount of progress. It should be running next week if the weather permits me to work on it. I need to connect the xhaust pipes to the manifolds, put the drive shaft back in, and install the intake.
Installed the lower intake today along with a couple other things.
Also I decided to completely delete all of my smog equipment. I removed the smog pump and the air tubes on the xhaust manifolds along with all the other various connectors, hoses and im not sure what the black box is called but that is gone as well lol.
If anyone is interested in doing this the main things you will need are fittings to plug the holes for the air tubes and a different belt.
The belt part number is k060966 GATES.
The fittings you will need are size 5/16 EDELMAN part number 120500 I got these at an Oreilly auto parts but you should be able to get them at any parts store/hardware store.
If you have the right tools removing the AIR tubes is fairly easy. I didnt have the right tools so I took the manifolds to a local shop and he did it for a couple bucks.
Oh and remember removing this equipment makes you a criminal your hurting the environment and breaking a couple laws YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. But its well worth it because the engine bay is SOOO much cleaner.
Here are some pics I've taken throughout the process of removing and installing the new engine.
note to anyone who has never done an engine swap before, If you are contemplating removing the engine without the transmission. Contemplate NO MORE. Dont do it. Remove them TOGETHER. My brother and I went through HELL lining up the engine and tranny once we put the engine back in.
Removing the old engine

I also decided to plasti dip my headlight buckets.... Need to re do it Not completely satisfied with the way it turned out. Here are some night pics. Ill get some in the day time tomorrow.
LoL yeah we are addicted to thirdgns. The IROC and GTA are mmroc86's cars (my brother) once we get mine running we are going to start working on his IROC. Hes swapping a 383 (l31 block) and a bunch of other goodies.
Anyways I took some time out today to focus on under the hood aesthetics. I painted the intake, and valve covers.
Also just for fun my brother brought out his FIRST TPI Intake that he will be dropping on that 383. I've got to say that things makes the original TPI intake look like a baby.
Well guys, it runs. it wont stay on unless i press on the pedal. and I have a leaking injector, But it runs lol
I need to get the timing down and fix that injector and I will post a video of it running.
Once that is done I can finally move on to the fun mods.
First on the list is new wheels and tires. Im still debating on which wheels but Im definitely getting some corvette wheels.
After the wheels. I want to completely redo the interior. Have not decided on racing seats or getting some junked out fourth gen seats and getting them redone. Maybe fourth gen seats for the back and racing seats in the front.
I moved to a new home in May, I finally settled in and started making progress on the car this month its finally running good.
Today I did a full brake job on the front and also did the sway bar links.
Going to get some wheels and tires for it than it will be road worthy. All it will need is tags and insurance to be legal. If I have money for gas after all of this than maybe I can take it out for a spin LOL
Bought mine new in '92. RS 305 5 speed, 16" wheels, in San Jose, CA. Still have window sticker....didn't see another this Color for some time.
Has almost 300k on the odometer now...many changes over the years. 2.5" lower springs, tubular rear control arms and adjustable panhard,
Swapped in Z28 rear with discs, 3.73 gears, changed grill to Z28 bow tie, del-a-Lum bushings in front control arms, blew T5 trans twice from banging 2nd gear, replaced with Tremec TKO,Hurst shifter, center force dual friction clutch, Hayes flywheel, aluminum Driveshaft, 1999 corvette wheels ( 17x8" and 18x9.5 I think), powder coated black, 350 crate motor (300 hp) griffin aluminum radiator. Flow master 3" exhaust, SLP 1-3/4" headers.
Played with TBI for a few years, edelbrock intake, ported throttle body, bigger injectors, Crane hydraulic roller cam, etc.
Eventually couldn't pass smog in CA.
Moved to Florida (no smog inspection)
In process of installing Weiand Stealth intake, 600cfm Holley,Mallory fuel pressure regulator, MSD ignition (distributor, coil, wires, 6AL), bigger Comp hydraulic roller cam, Profiler 185 aluminum heads, comp roller rockers, etc...still gathering some parts (timing set, dampner, etc) painted orange this time with gmpp valve covers, timing cover, drop base 3" air cleaner, engine out so getting new clutch, to bearing, pilot bearing. Computer connections gone, mechanical gauges, cat gone, replaced with electric cutout. Parked outside in FL has taken it's toll on paint, clear coat going away in spots...that'll be dealt with after it's back on the road...still a cool color that I seldom see. They don't even issue front plates here and window tint is ok all around....roads are smooth and fast because of high temps...my hands have been the only ones on this car's mechanical since new...
