Late brothers Camaro I restored
So this is my 1985 iroc that I have been restoring
My brother passed away just over 2 years ago. He was murdered in his home and still no justice. He was into drugs very heavy and living that life brings along many bad people. Anyways I ended up getting his run down camaro. By run down I mean beat, flairs ripped off, fender dented, paint all pealed, broke wind shield, posi rear broke, 10,000 mile oil changes etc.
My mom Bought this car new and handed it over to him with like 20k miles mint when he was 17ish. He kept it nice for awhile and then drugs come first and went down hill. I always wanted to do a brother project with him but he drifted more and more apart.
So over the last year or so I have built this. I Have done everything my self including building the motor to painting it... here is a list of what i did. My brother and I always liked the 92 aero styles in teal paint. So bought a 92 parts car and started.

Mecham tri y headers.. custom 2.5 y pipe from headers to just after the cross member (zero room for larger pipe with long tubes with tunnel mount torque arm with built in drive shaft loop). From crossmember its 3inch borla adjustable kit meant for a 93-97 i think lt1. After the rear it has a qtp e cut out or goes through the borla muffler. Kept all the 3inch pipe hidden along with the tips

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
This is a long post sorry in advance.... When you see the cars in the bottom is why my brother was always after me to do his iroc.. he was into drugs and would of ruined any job I did.
I wish I had the pictures of camaro when I started. My laptop crahsed and lost all the pictures of interior out, rear end out, front subframe out, underneath being cleaned and bedlined, subframe connectors being welded and nose off. Pretty much had a bare shell and started over... sucks. The car had zero rust as it never saw a new york winter. Always got put away before the salt. It does't have an ounce of bondo anywhere. A number of coats of 2k high build primer and durablocks got it straight.
Few people pm'd me about others cars so here is a few pics. Started when I was 13 now Im 26. No partying drinking. All my time is spent in the garage. Few of them my dad owned since late 70's and we fixed them together.
71 duster 340 6 pack 4 speed
87 aerocoupe
04 sti running a built motor with a rotated 35r.. bought it for a steal... 508 to the wheel on pump gas.. more on race fuel. It was a mess when I got it.
68 formula s 340 4 speed 7600 original miles. Bought it for 200 out of a field when i was 16 and did a full resto
6 months into work on 68 cuda. They pushed it around the fields with a skid steer
my dads cuda 340 6 pack

That Vega is cool. It brings back memories of my drag strip days.
The aerocoupe SS looks good. How are those cars on the road? I've always been tempted to buy one but I've never driven one.
Its good to hear about others that spend their time in the garage and out of trouble. Way better memories are made in a garage. The rest of your collection is awesome btw.

Aerocoupe is a bit floaty feeling. It turns pretty well with the stock suspension, brakes work ok. I think lowering springs and bigger sways would help it quite a bit. Stock 305 so no power. Decent gas mileage and roomy interior. But all in all its a nice smooth riding car. Bought it a few months ago because of a back injury and everycar above has a stick shift in it and I needed automatic. It had been sitting for 10 years and needed a bit of tlc.
Thanks everyone for the comments. Out of all the cars this one means the most.

Few people had pm'd me what brand weatherstripping and how I like the fit. Btw it is metro soft and it worked but no where near the fit of original.
Also had taken all the drip rails and window channels out to paint it so no tape lines. Was a pain but made the job alot cleaner

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
So i ended up with a full set of door mouldings and spears in teal
I don't know if I want to install them yet or not? There is like one of two slight ripples in the door body lines I didn't catch before paint. The mouldings would hide them but at the same time get rid of the clean look.
What would you guys do?

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure he's proud of what you did. The car looks great. How is the powerband on the car with all that lift and 200cc runners? Id imagine that would be a ton of top end power.

Honestly can't really tell you, Haven't driven the car more then a 1/4 mile since got it almost done before new york weather went to crap. It should pull really nice from 2800/3000-6500ish. I have almost the same combo in my vega and I like it.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Great to know. I'm in the middle of an engine swap and have a balanced bottom end. 165cc intake / 72cc chamber dart heads at the moment. Should flow just fine with my .475 lift cam, but I think there is still some meat on the bone. Go for a little more lift with a little larger runner size.. maybe even 64cc chambers. Could really pick up some power.
Thanks for the heads up

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
So I got my door molding all wet sanded and buff. Come out very nice for original teal molding. Still up in the air about installing it. If so I will do it in the spring to let the clear cure really well rest of the winter
So I want to do a memory sticker on the rear window. I already designed it on my vinyl program. It is just JR with a halo over it. Anyways thinking of what vinyl to use.. sliver to match logo, carbon fiber, white etc. I did come across this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/7ft-x-60-Dark-grey-brushed-steel-vinyl-car-wrap-DIY-sheet-roll-film-satin-/301310419235?hash=item4627802123&vxp=mtr
And lastly I come across a lt1 t56. Not sure if it would be worth that route. Need a 450 flywheel for 2 piece rear main to lt1 t56 and would have to cut my umi cross member. Or go with a tko and be able to use my flywheel and clutch I have already.

He's collecting parts for the restoration, which will start after he finishes his Gremlin restoration. He also said that the '79 AMX he was going to restore will now be the parts car cat to my old one. I'm glad he ended up with the car, I now consider it "saved". And if he ever wants to get rid of it, he said he'd give me first dibs.

not much of an update, but got the car insured and registered finally. If New York winter would give up I will be able to take it out sometime soon.
I also polished my iroc wheels. Took 4-5 hours a wheel. Stripped the clear, sand, polish and repaint. Pictures don't do them justice.I lefta bit of machining lines as I didn't want the mirror finish

So update been running the car around getting bugs worked out of it... so far so good.
Anyways mail man showed up with a new nos cheater kit
Swap meet today I bought a very very low mileage complete t56 to swap in. I just need to save up to get flywheel and then cut my umi crossmember up. Along with transmission swap I will be making a way nicer y pipe so it will turn 6400. It dies off around 5500 from the restriction I think.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Sorry to hear about your brother. I lost a brother at 32 yrs. old. His aortic arch fractured (not heart, but main artery coming out). He imported the first Aprilla works bike (250 cc) into the US, and raced in AMA; his bike got the at-large bid for FIMA US Grand Prix '94 - Laguna Seca; and watched the race in the press box with the President of Aprilla. We competed like brothers do, except he chose motorcycles and I chose cars (I've never raced other than on-track HPDE's).
I choose to remember all the good, and forget any conflicts (just a couple). I love to hear of tribute builds concerning cars and families. There's nothing like building something with family to create memories.
Looks like you have a career ahead.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Sorry to hear you lost your brother so young as well.I do agree with remember the good times but some of the fights hang around. At least his car is out and driving around. Many people in the area have commented when I have had it out last week or so...
So got my fidanza lt1 2rms alum flywheel, stage 3 clutch, arp flywheelbolts, arp pressure plate bolts, braided clutch line and conversion fittings. The 6 speed I got looks and feels like it has no miles on it. I will be installing it shortly along with making my own crossmember to hook to my umi arm with double humps to run 3inch exhaust. I want to get rid of my small y pipe.
out for a ride

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
So I got my t56 installed. My 700 dollar swap meet trans shifts perfect with out one noise or grind.
Starter head had to be ground some to clear bellhousing and floor hole cut back 1.25 inches.
Flywheel and clutch fit perfect with arp flywheel bolts and pressure plate(3/8x16x2 cut down 1/4 inch).
I built my own crossmember to make clearance for a new 3 inch y
I used the stock 3rd gen pedal and master. I used an 88 1.25 diameter cavalier slave. Clutch is about 2 inches off the floor and super smooth.
I hooked the reverse lock out to the ebrake switch to engage it.
adding 3inch collectors to my tri y's
extra support for mount, not done yet

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Looking really good!
It looks/appears that the pass side collector is higher than the driver's - that might be a good thing.
This is the only pic of T56 and 3" y-pipe I have (Hawk's LT, 3" into 3.5" single).

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Thanks, that is very similar to what am I will be doing. I have a few 45 and 2 90 bends of stainless I going to try to make work. I did buy a 3 inch merge off ebay which hasn't arrived. If all fails I do have a friend with pipe bender but it pretty simple with what I have. Anything will be better then the 2.25 y pipe with a direct 90 degree merge.
The one collector had to be lower as I bend the header down to clear the clutch slave area on the t56. With the t5 they both sat level.
I actually rather have the collector down as before the lowest thing was the oil pan and I did hit it already. Least the collector will hit before the pan now.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
So got my y pipe done. It is 3 inch from headers back. The bigger y pipe changed how the car sounds. It does not sound like an american v8. Maybe is is from the tri y headers. The engine pulls much hard now.
The stage 3 clutch has a bit of chatter when hot but still breaking it in. I do notice a bit of noise at an idle in the trans area but I have read t56 with aluminum flyhweel and a larger cam make some noise. It shifts perfect.
Also put a new fuel pump in just so I know its in there.
Will be getting my nitrous kit installed shortly.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
Another update.
Put a few 100 miles on the 6 speed set up. Well worth the time and money. Clutch chatter was gotten much better.
Installed umi lower arm brackets... Stopped my wheel hop issue.
Ended up locking my dist at 36 degree all the time. I run like 20 plus intial so the short mech curve to get figured out wasn't worth it. Also when the nitrous is installed I know for a fact my timing is stopping where I want it.
Power steering was getting pretty hot on a decent drive so I added a tube style transmission cooler but used it for power steering. It seemed to help quite a bit. Mounted in front of radiator on core support using all metal lines.
Also ditched the single tpi fan for a lt1 shrouded dual fan set up. Run another 30 amp factory relay so each fan has its own. So far when ever I flip the fans on car stays right at 180 and doesn't creep up anymore. Lt1 fan set up was a very simple upgrade. Some trimming for the steering box and trimmed the top plate down.

Re: Late brothers Camaro I restored
So I tackled the job of the headlinder. I had glue the original material many times and kept falling.. So tore it out and put new material down... What a pain, the headliner boards are made of basically nothing and fragile. But took some time and come out very well.
Took a few videos today
Inside run, 1-3 t56..short shifting around 5k
1st gear burn out
Run up the road with the cut out open in the borla. Shifting around 4500ish
