89 iroc-z barn find

Found this little gem. It's a 1989 iroc, g92 option package, and it shows its a one owner. Been sitting in this old lady's barn since 1994. The injectors went out and we're never fixed. The car came from California before that, so there is only light surface rust on it, and you can't beat the price of 300 bucks.

Nice find! Is it a 5 speed G92 or a 5.7?

Hold on. Posting from my phone so didn't get a good look at pics. You could not combine t tops and G92 in 1989,

Good thing you posted back so soon...some people over-react to misinformation. On my phone, 84 looks like 89 and visa-versa.

I thought one of our rules was not to bash other peoples cars. I do not know but I like that rule.

Re: 89 iroc-z barn find

The car was repainted this color in 91 according to the paperwork that she had on it. I'm guessing that's when the lovely 90's graphics were add lol. I'm not to concerned if it's a true g92 or not it all needs replaced anyway from setting for the last 22 years, plus I'm doing an ls swap in it anyway, car does have the oil cooler and the 9 bolt bog_warner rear-end.

Thank you I'm just posting what I know about the car I bought it off a 85 year old lady, as this car was her late husbands. Hell it might not be a g92 but according to the rpo codes it is, but I don't care as I am not return ing it to factory form. I'm going swap in a 6.0 that I was going to use in my 85 iroc, but my first step is going to be cleaning out all the rat droppings lol.

Don't worry about it , bro. Just have fun with it, that's what this hobby is all about.

BTW, the SPID doesn't list CC1 t-tops, even though this car obviously has them.

Ya it's weird, I guess it a possibility that the ttops were added at some point. It's not that hard of a swap. It's just weird that the vin in the glove box is the vin of the car.

LOL oh I got some good ones, one of them was a gospel tape and I think the other was Aerosmith. I'm not sure the rat ate a good portion of the gospel tape lol

Those look like stock T-tops. Are you sure the Vin on the SPID sticker and the Vin on the car match? The glove box lid could have been changed out with a used one. Those T-tops definitely are not the C&C Tops. Very strange to me.

Yup I have several times over lol. The roof could have been swapped with a ttop one somewhere along the line. I had a buddy do this to his 86. If you good with a cutting wheel and a welder you can hardly tell. Once the car gets torn apart and sand blasted I'll know for sure. It is very weird. But it's still one hell of a find none the less.

Are there t-top wedges in the door frames? Looks very stock but the codes don't lie.

My favorite color on an '89. I would buy all I could find for those $'s. Hard to find rustfree in Indiana. Congrats.

Thanks. I know I look for ever to find this. The car wasn't shipped to indiana until 1993 when the owners moved here so it's hardly seen any winter. The floors are still the factory color with just a couple small spots of surface rust. Almost all of the rust is on the engine and transmission.

" only 55 thousand original miles too ".
Its possible but......

The mileage indicator on that car rolls over to "0" after 100,000 miles.

Mine says 35,000 but its 135,000.

Like I said, anything's possible.
You would have to get a better look at the engine for signs of wear and tear .

I'm pretty sure it 55 thousand I have the title from 1993 when they transfered it to indiana and it shows 47,597 original miles. Motor is seized from setting 22 years. But it looks super clean under the hood, no leaks or grime.

May just be stuck rings - have you tried putting trans fluid in each of the spark plug holes? Let it sit for a week & give it a try.

Ya i would but I'm missing the drivers side runners and fuel rail. The lady's son started to work on it a couple of years ago and took it apart to get to the injectors and never got very far, and she didn't know where he put the rest of the intake, I look all over that barn, but I couldn't find it. Plus I already knew I wasn't going to use it anyway. I'm planning on doing an ls swap after I tear it apart and clean it all out. Couple of rats made a nice home somewhere in it lol.
