85 Z28 2nd redo project

So Ive had my Z28 since about 2002 I bought it back then for $600. It was in ok shape. I did the trans, motor, suspension and paint over about a 2 year period while driving it in between. It was my only car back then. So fast forward to today and I've decided to repaint and strip it again. I'm also gonna redo the interior which I didnt do the last time. Onto some pics.

How it sits today

Re: 85 Z28 2nd redo project

After the interior strip. Found a little rot on the driver side. Was kinda surprised its been in a garage the last 15 years.

What color are you thinking this time? Looks like she was silver originally?

it was origally grey. Im looking at doing it 2018 mazda soul red crystal. Its a 4 stage paint thats not available just yet to body shops. But we are on a hunt for it. The original grey is way to boring for me.

Re: 85 Z28 2nd redo project

Current progress. Engine bay is just about stripped. Only the booster and steering box is left for removal. Doors are gutted ready to removed and prepped. Hood and 1 fender that needed some body work got epoxy primed tonight.

Thanks.. I really want to. But after considering margin of error of it not coming right and matching it if I need to touch it up or make a repair I'm looking at other reds. GM anniversary red pearl is at the top of list so far.

Soul red crystal isn't that big of a deal to paint at all. It's the same exact process as Ford Ruby Red....even uses the same toner in the clear.

Very nicely done lines! Not easy to do, especially on short pieces like that.

So the changing the paint line dramatically improved the color!! The cost is way more almost double the price but its a more vibrant red and the pearl pops a lot more.

Re: 85 Z28 2nd redo project

Looks like a fine job!

Minor point, if those are sheetmetal screws, holding the proportioning valve to the inner fender, probably want to add some lock-nuts, to secure against shake.
