Hello 3rd gen world,
Looking for a few paint ideas for my build. The main color will be a dark maroon and I'm interested to see what others have done regarding gloss/matte black accent colors. I'm going for a pro-touring resto-mod style.
What is already done: most of the drive-train is complete. Car has a rebuilt LQ4, 11.4:1, 231/238 .600"+ lift cam, Katech ported 799 heads, ls6 intake, 1-7/8" long tubes, hooker true duals, refurbished bearings/seals/rings/etc and built by me, tuned by Pat G (449hp on the mustang dyno). Trans is a rebuilt and upgraded T56 (TX Drivetrain Performance), monster twin disc clutch. Rear is still 10 bolt with 3.73 gears and updated locker.
Current State: Car is getting body-work and paint at a nearby custom paint shop. As stated above, I'd like to go with a dark maroon color, the three I have in mind are Chevrolet G1E, Dodge PRV and a House of Color Brandywine. I think I'm pretty set on black accent colors for the front grill insert and the racoon eyes for the headlight area. I'm trying to add some custom accent design to the SS style hood somewhere. Also open to other ideas for black accent (spoiler/mirrors?).
The 3 ideas so far are,
1. paint entire hood black
2. just paint the raised portion of the SS geometry black
3. paint a black stripe down the "vertical" sections where the hood raises up
I suppose I should mention, the wheels are gloss black XXR 526 with chrome lip. I've attached a few pictures of the car before it left for the paint shop (I'll warn you, it's not pretty... yet). The only difference is I've installed aerocatch hood pins since these pictures. Let me know what ideas you guys have! Thanks
As for idea #3 (paint a black stripe down the "vertical" sections where the hood raises up), this is my best attempt in microsoft paint trying to describe this. Tried to find a similar color Camaro with SS hood.
I also like to matte black sections of the hood on the DSE-Z Camaro. Thoughts on how that would work with the SS style hood and dark maroon?
