Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
I havent been able to get mine back in the shop since moving it out last year but hopefully in a few months I'll be able to free up some shop space. I did have the glass guy come out and put a new windshield in it. They just had the universal thicker trim so I ordered the correct one in from Hawks prior to the glass guy coming out.
That said, that project is a long ways out. This years tasks include some preventative maintenance. The intake has to come off and I want to inspect the entire valve train. Everything is new (billet cam and equally pricey roller lifters), except the Crower rocker arms, which were rebuilt with their also expensive parts. With the hydraulic roller there's the setting of the cam endplay. It may be that the last cam started to move in the cam tunnel and eventually caused a lifter to move off of a lobe. Then pure destruction. I don't ever wish to go through that again so with the lid off, I can check to see if the cam is still where I set it.
I've put about 2000 hard/racing miles since the engine was completely rebuilt so I owe it to myself to get in there. Even managed a half dozen drag strip passes. Enthusiasm though, not to mention a myriad of other projects on the go is what's keeping me from getting at it.
Good thing it's a hobby.
Nice to see something moving forward with old Morrison Cook. I'm waiting for your first track day!
Good luck.

What was the paint color that you used on the valve covers? It looks like a very close match to the NOS one that was pictured above when you compared them.

That's an interesting bit of information. I've a windshield to replace too and the wider trim never did sit right with me. Nice to know there's a source for an original. Is there's new or used? I would think that it's new...?

Not looking good for a track day this year as I need to pull the fuel tank back out it looks like, have the front struts resealed and go through the brakes while apart. Going to change the rear ratio too plus lots of other loose ends.

I think it was like silver spruce or something like that. Pretty sure I still have the can, I'll look tomorrow and see.

I think I have some of that spruce silver nickel spray paint, but I was persuaded by some people here not to use it because they stated it wouldn’t match. Obviously, from your pics, it looks like an almost exact match to the NOS valve cover you compared them to.
I had my covers originally powder coated, but I never really liked the fact how they look so thick, the powder coating that is. I’m going to strip them back down and paint them. I think painting them (from the pics you took of yours) looks more correct than thick powder coat.

Hopefully he returns, the VARA group seem to know him well. Do you think his was an early 88 JL damaged body too, I'd like to know if the damage was similar to damage on MCM 89 01? Must not have been that bad to still be around.

Keep in mind some assembly line cars were pulled and considered damaged just for paint reasons.
