Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
right now i just got done installing an amp + sub, got it from a friend who said they worked, they were for free so I took them anyways. Well really I'm not done, the darn thing wouldnt even get power to the amp, the red light wouldnt come on. I have a kit from best buy, of the 12v cord, the negative wire, and the wire from the dash unit thing to the amp all hooked up, could it be a fuse or something? I know this is probably the wrong place to ask but i am reallly tired from cutting my self up from wiring around stuff and crap =/
any ideas?
any ideas?
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
check the remote power wire (it'll be a thin blue wire that goes to the cd player) also check your ground from off the amp....a lot of my wires come loose in the winter (my doors freeze shut so i have to climb through the hatch and i always kick wires lol) oh, and i'd like to add to the "great deal" list....87 t/a, two owners with 90k miles 305 tpi, and totally stock (original spark plug wires and distributor cap (i'm not bragging....just trying to show how un-tainted it was lol)) for 1300, beats some guy with a camaro who wanted 3500 for a white camaro with an aftermarket spoiler, fake z28 gfx and it was a camaro Ls with a 305 carb 130k miles, a lot of dings, and a very leaky exhaust, i'm glad i got the t/a,i'm much happier with it i must say
congrats on the bird! hopefully we'll see you in a lot more boards than just this one soon

haha, well i just know from plenty of experience of "hmmm.....wtf could it be now???? hmm...i fixed that blue wire 30 times now, but i doubt its that....it was tight last time i looked at it" then about 5 minutes later "EUREKA!!! it was the blue wire" lol
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
i beleive i just ran it to the back wheel well....or atleast somewhere aroudn there....just take a grinder to wherever you ground it to first, then just bolt it on...i think i even use a series of washers and a self-tapping sheet metal screw....sounds ghetto but i havent ever had a problem with the ground and its very well hidden
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
I had to quote you on that because that's exactly how I feel about automatics. Autos should be left to trucks and imports, and for the weak hearted drag racers, real men row through their gears, but I feel for the drag racers, the rest can just put it in drive and go.
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
lol i wish it was easy for me to just say 'gee...ya know i really dont want to just pop it in drive and go anymore....i'd like to actually press a clutch and shift a gear and go....i think i'll just put a nice little shifter **** on there and BAM! a manual transmission' lol...instead i'm looking at 1, new tranny 2, new driveshaft 3, new cross-member 4, slave cylinder 5, new brake/clutch assembly and 6, new computer chip (i have tpi) jsut to make it so i can run my car through the gears....now you give me about 1500 bucks and i'll join you with 'rowing through the gears' but until then, i wouldnt go smack talking autos so much, some of us dont really like them......oh and by...you forgot mini-vans in the list of cars that dont need manual tranny's
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
Yeah, thats 100% true, mini-vans shouldnt be allowed on the road at all =/. They be stealing my gas, buying a new front bumper for my car soon! woohoo, and painting it for senior project for school, what colors ya guys think?
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
'i'm sorry but there is no possible way that I would give you, even loan you the money because you want to run a clutch set up. I never " smack talked " auto trans', I was remarking on the ease of driving. I love driving manual cars so I am little biased even though I have both. If you don't like my opinion on automatics then share it with the next guy, I am entitled to my opinion and I don't care what you think regardless. Take it for what it's worth.

A well built auto is just as good as a standard in terms of performance. A shift kit can go a long way. In my Nova, I've got a built TH350 with a transgo shift kit that chirps second gear at 50mph with a very, VERY mild 350.
Now I've also got a 77 beetle with a 4spd. Not something to race in, but fun none-the-less. Only 40-something horsepower
And then there's the Firebird. By no means a race car, but fun to row through the gears in on the twisties.
There are people that don't know how to drive a stick that have Mustangs and Camaros, and then there are people that do, but still have automatics.
IMO, you aren't a "true" car guy if you don't know the basics of a manual transmission, even if your car is an automatic. Otherwise, it's just another Joe Schmoe with the Mustang/Camaro cruising down the road.

Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
believe me, if i had 1500+ dollars i would gladly put in a manual transmission and the entire clutch assembly, also if i had 3k i would get rid of my 305 and get a 350, but i guess if ihad a 350 id be more of a car enthusiast wouldnt i? lol all im saying is that some people who have automatics dont want them, i find it more enjoyable to drive a manual too, but at 21 years old and in college i try to do what i can, i got the car for 1700 dollars and it was a steal for the condition it was in, i am not taking an attitude towards your own opinion, i am saying that sometimes people have to deal with the cards they are dealt, especially in a state where thirdgens hardly exist and the closest ones you can find that are what you want are 7grand, i guess if i had that much money to spend on a thrid gen camaro (it was a 92 z28 with manual and 350 tpi) then i could just throw it at him and say yay i got a manaul vroom vroom lol but instead when you ahve 1900 dollars to work with, sometimes you have to make a compromise
Re: Another new guy =], 92 Firebird
So Friday I bought a 91 Firebird for 800$, Not bad, missing a door handle, few rips and stains in the interior. Blew a headgasket this weekend, or it already was =[. But for 800$, not bad. The guy said it was a 350 but me and my teacher are pretty sure its a 305 because it's still tbi and looks VERY stock. But we'll find out tomorrow because I'm pulling the heads to do new gaskets and clean it up. It's clean title, nice black paint with no dents.
My V6 that I had before had the battery on the drivers side and it was easy to get the power wire for the subs through there, my power wire isnt long enough from the passenger side to go in through the drivers side. Almost IMPOSSIBLE!!! To get through all that dang AC crap.

Hard to go wrong with a 3rd gen for $800.00, especially if you don’t mind doing a bit of work.
When you get a chance, can you post some pictures of it.
I noticed you did not say you got a good deal on this one, just that $800.00 was not bad.
I have noticed myself that on this site if someone says they got a good deal, no matter what the car is or what they spent, there is always someone claiming to have found a better deal. I personally think deals are relative to your area.
So I think your first post and this post may very well be good deals, congrats.
Also, Spitzfiya good call on the GTA, surprised they didn’t say it had a 350 also.
