sell my thirdgen?????
Figured I might get a lot of views in here.
So I've been thinking about selling my Trans Am for a while. Should I?
It's a 1988 GTA. It has an L98 (350 t.p.i.) and a 700r4. All GTA's and Iroc's with 350's were automatic. It has the original Australian 9-bolt rear with 3.27 gears. The engine and transmission are all original. As you can see in the pictures it's black with a beechwood cloth interior. Only mods to the car are hooker 2055 headers and y-pipe, banks exhaust, Koni shocks, wheels/tires/rotors. It's been tuned by Jeremy Formato. I replaced the old deck (was not working) with a pioneer head unit, and all new speakers. The headliner and carpet are new. It has 48,000 original miles.
I believe the car has been repainted once before, and needs to be repainted again due to sap damage. As you can see, the paint on the car shines well, but up close there is sap damage on the top surfaces of the car. I have to replace the headlight motors and antenna motor, which I would do before selling. I also have a spare OEM nose for the car, because I hate the license plate bracket. The nose has to be installed and painted. I'm unsure whether or not I'd paint the car before selling it.
What do you think it's worth, honestly? Painted vs. unpainted? Third-gens are becoming increasingly rare in better than junkyard condition, and this one is in great condition. It's straight as an arrow, and has never been hit. Thing is, I never drive it, and it sits in my garage. I want to sell it to make room for an M3 or Vette.
Sorry about the essay. Here are the pics.

That GTA is gorgeous!!! GTA's in my area (eastern Canada) which are in good condition go for as much as $10,000 Canadian. And with today's dollar, that would be about $9000-9500 American.
Those wheels are awesome. I know they are TT II's but what size and offset are they??? Thk's!

But if you are set on selling it I would wait until spring and put it up for around 8k, don't try selling it during winter, believe me I know

Also I would leave the paint the way it is, if someone buys it let them decide if they want to paint it or not and they can change the color or do whatever.

Re: sell my thirdgen?????
That was a pretty vauge ballpark I tossed out. I saw a real clean Yellow IROC w/ 60k sell for $6500 locally, so I dunno. Depends on your buyer, and how long you're willing to wait for the right one. Selling a 3rd gen is easy, selling it for a good price might take some time.

Re: sell my thirdgen?????
If you're selling it because you don't drive it, why would you replace it? It seems its replacement wouldn't be driven as much either if there isn't enough time for this one.
It's a gorgeous car, I'd rather have that over an M3 or a Vette anyday. The car looks killer with those wheels and the black paint. Spray it black again and drive it for as long as you can
I'd say you'd be able to bank somewhere around $7,000+ for it if you're set on selling it

I was thinking $6000 myself. Looks great in the pictures but less than great paint, non-original parts bring the price down, mileage is a plus.

Here's one in the Bay Area going for 14K with only 10k miles.
Craigslister
The right buyer might give you more than 5-6K but my question is why do you want to sell such a sweet heart?

Well I think I've decided to keep it. It's not costing me anything to hold onto..so maybe you're right. I think the problem is I NEVER drive it. I'm sure I'll fall in love with it again when it goes on the road. I just couldn't sell it for 5-6k and then look back at those pictures...it would kill me.

Ya, you should keep it. I am with the consensus here, you won't get no more than 5k for her, so you may as well keep her.

Don't sell. Thats one of the nicest GTAs I've ever seen. We've all let cars go that we wish we could have back. Oh, those rims look badass on your car.
