89 GTA W/ 350 TPI... $1,000 Should I get it?
As many will know, I have a white Formula 350 that is kinda built. But......I have always liked GTA. Well, I found a running 89 GTA with a 350 that is stock for 1g. Should I get it? Body is good, no rust. Needs paint though, as it has a few different body parts on it. I do not have pictures yet though. I told they guy I will get it on Monday if it passes smog, which it should. What do you guys think. I need to get my formula moved as my dad has rented out the house it is at, and they are moving in in a few days and I need to get rearend spacers and put it all back together. I will be strapped for cash for about a month though. I think It is worth it. I do not know how many miles it has on it, but it does have a digital dash. It has been sitting for a few months, but it should start right up.
Opinions please....

I am only going to get it if it passes smog though. The guy who has it, hasn't run it. He got is as a lien title, so I asked him to get the keys, and get it smogged, so he said he will do it by monday which is the day I will get it if it passes.

I also know it is missing the digital Gas gauge, Temp, and trip meter. It also is missing a stereo. Anyone know how much it would be to buy the part of the digital dash?

I wouldn't think it'd be cheap. you'd be lucky to find digital components at a jk...

I'd go for it, if nothing else you could probably part it for at least a grand, assuming it's complete and in decent shape. I think the digital dash was only available in 87 and 88 though.

Spoke with him. He ordered the Vats Key, and he is going to try to get it smogged before I leave. It should be up and running. As long as I can drive it home, I am going to get it I think. It is definately a 350 TPI... The whole shebang. I guess the paint is pretty good, but the hood is flat black.

Got to this web site and create an account:
www.mojobaby.com
Configure your cell phone with the site and MMS the pics to the web for us all. Yeah, that's mighty selfish of me (but it is a cool web site).

I passed on it. I needed paint, It has some bondo, the altenater was toast. Needed to much work to drive it home. The guy didn't even get the key, nor did he get it smogged. So I got 94 Caprice 5.7 Police package for $1000.

But then again I guess you already have a 350 formula. I had a base Firebird S/E with a 305 and then went straight to a GTA with a 350. I swear the body kit, t-tops and gold wheels make this car...so maaaannny differences between the two
Best descision ever...and it didnt even run when i bought it (Sat for 5 years)

It makes since that you passed since you already have a 3rd gen.
Perhaps somebody that does not have one, and that does not mind putting a bit of hard work into a car will buy it.

Re: 89 GTA W/ 350 TPI... $1,000 Should I get it?
It definitely would be a running car, no doubt. I just don't have the money to spend as I have 6k in vet bills, I got to school, and I have a firebird that has a lot of kinks.
I ended up buying a 9C1 Caprice (cop Package) with the LT1 for $1000, and I drove it home. The best part is, I can sell it for around $2,300. If I didn't find the caprice, I would have probably bought the GTA. I just wanted something that looks good, reliable, and gets good MPG.
The GTA needed paint, interior work, steering wheel, It needed a key...and a few other things. I am not up for the task right now.
Vet bills + full time student + Part Time job (for vet bills) = not much time to work on a car. Let alone my formula.

I know I can sell the caprice for around 2200 if needed. So even though I am in debt, it is an investment. So it gets me around while my formula is down, and I can sell it for 2 times the amount I bought it for. I will only have it at most for like a year or so.

Rear end problems. I am pretty much rebuilding mine, put a part in backwards, broke a side spacer, then I was taking it all apart again (part backwards) and I stripped a bolt holding the carrier together. Now I am just waiting on parts. + I only have a limited amount of time to work on it.
