Power to both tires. An open rear only powers the passenger side rear.

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

I guess I have that then cause when I do a burnout it works. But when I got 1 tire stuck in the muddy grass, it just spun that tire and not the other. Why? The one on the driveway (cement) had perfect traction. So why wasnt the power over there

The only power it "gets", is by the gear fluid moving from the gears moving, pushing on the drover's side axle.....In other words NO. It's along for the ride.

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

An open rear can will actually send the power to the wheel with less traction reguardless of side, but most notoriously and open rear will spin the passenger. although my old s10 would demolish the drivers side rear lol dont know why (open 7.5 10 bolt) . when posi units get miles on them or have seen alot of city driving they can begine to act funny as the clutches are now worn. Often with new posi units you can hear the clutches chattering goin around corners.

P.S. lets keep the BURNOUT PICS coming!!!!!

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

Posi is short for Positraction which is Chevrolet's name for a LIMITED SLIP. Which was NOT designed for burnout but to improve traction on poor road conditions,

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

Exactly My formula was just experiencing a "poor road condition" situation lol. Like what was stated a posi-unit is intended to indeed increase traction, an indirect result of this is bigger, badder BURNOUTS!

an open differantal provides power to BOTH tires as long as they have EQUAL traction, once one starts to slip all the power will go to the slipping tire, because most engines turn to the right it will load the drivers side tire and the passengers side will spin, a posi or other limited slip diffrental has clutches, cones or other devices to provide near equal power to both tires.

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

Posi-units actually keep the power at both wheels "even" by taking power away from the wheel that has less traction and applys that power to the wheel that has better traction whichever side that may be. The clutches in the posi are adjusted by the amount of pre-load on them. So when both wheels are at a loss of traction, like a Burnout!! , the power is evenly split from side to side resulting in mass amounts of smoke and a pair of stripes you can tell your buddies about.

Re: Burnout!! what else did they givem posi for??

No line-lock videos/pictures yet... But I plan to get some after this next car is finished. I love gettin them smokey in 1st with the line lock (so much smoother than powerbraking) and then letting off the lock, and banging second. Talk about smoke.... haha.

Here is a spinning launch of sorts...just for craps and giggles.

Watch your volume once I take off...its a speaker rattler...
